Here's big ratsnake #2 who came along Saturday. Zeb hopes he will get to "handle" it. Sorry Zeb.

By Sunday morning he had a friend to travel with. Hubby is 6 foot by the way.

Hubby holds them by the tail tips so I can get a few pics. His "idea" was I should lay down and let the snakes come towards me and get a closeup. No thanks.

Now here they are in the travel box. We released them about 20 miles from my house. They were happy to slither away.

There was also a big watersnake on the patio an inch from the back door on Saturday. Snakes are on the move here as they search for mates.

I'm sorry but I would have to live somewhere else while they are on the move.
The small garter snakes surprise me in early spring when I start working out back, but I guess they have nice places to hide later so I don't have to see them.

I like snakes ^_^ At the BOW event this weekend, I was in the firearms safety class, and someone held up a teensy snake! It was hardly longer than her palm :D Not sure what kind it was, but it was black with a yellow (I think) band on the back of its "neck" (if snakes had necks *lol*)

EDIT: I think it might have been a Northern Ringneck ^_^ (I was just looking up Indiana snakes ^^)

Being from Ireland I never saw snakes, short of viewing them in a zoo. I'm not sure how I'd react if they visited as regular as they do you two Bethie. Are those ratsnakes poisonous? (forgive me I am a snake newbie )

Ireland doesn't have snakes, I thought snakes were everywhere.

Bethie, I am glad that y'all release them instead of killing them.

Gardenstew, being from the city I never came in contact with snakes. First I was afraid of them but I just got used to them. We have never had a poisinous snake in the yard. Before Cajunbelle nominates us for sainthood notice I did NOT say what happened to the watersnake! He is of a kind that is quick to bite and puts an anti-coagulant in your blood so you just keep bleeding. He met my 22 as I don't want the dogs messing with them either.

Ugh! Snakes! But I'll bet they would be very helpful here on my war against mice! There are so many around the yard (none in the house, thanks to Boots my cat) and they seem to favor eating my ground cover. So far 2 Moss Phlox and a Creeping Baby's Breath. They just starting eating my prized clump of Sweet William too!

Sorry I didn't mean to sound so harsh  . We do are best not to kill the bull snakes (they help keep rattlesnakes away) :D .

You can keep your snakes. Even garter snakes startle me and send me in the opposite direction. And I grew up in the country. I'm nothing more than a big chicken when it comes to snakes and other crawling things.
