I snuck out yesterday afternoon, hoping the god of winds wouldn't see me, and got some more rose photos before the wind came up and all my pictures turned into blurs. This is my favorite climber, Clytemnestra: Clytemnestra rose ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) She is using an old ashe juniper tree as a trellis, and they both seem to enjoy it. This is what she looks like close-up: Clytemnestra close up ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) She reblooms frequently until summer's heat shuts her down, then she has a fall flush of blossoms. Love this rose! And here is a sweet little ivory colored antique rose, Marie Pavie. She is lightly scented and a heavy bloomer. Marie rarely gets over 3' tall, and is so easy to care for--deadhead if you want, and a little fertilizer in the spring and she's happy. Marie Pavie ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) Here is her bush: Marie Pavie rose bush ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) She is partly shaded by the big ashe juniper, but can take more shade than many other roses. If the wind allows, I'll take photos of Dark Lady, Belinda's Dream, and Lady Hillingdon to post. No, I don't have too many roses!
Clytemnestra is really a beauty, she looks very comfy laying around her friend, ashe juniper. The winds have been terrible haven't they? Hard to water the garden when the water ends up blown into the neighbors yard....two houses down the block
That wind! I put laundry on the line and ended up fetching our "drawers" out of the field. I either need stronger clothes pins or a sheltered clothesline!
Your Clytemnestra rose is a really gorgeous colour and I can see why it's your favourite. It's a real beauty. Is it a scented rose by any chance? I would love to have a rose that colour in my garden.
Now I have this mental video of you running across the field chasing your 'drawers', while they flutter across the top of the grasses laughing at your attempt to run as fast as they can fly.
Eileen, the scent is very light, but also very pleasant. Toni, if it weren't for barbed wire, I'd have to take an emergency trip to Wal-Mart to replenish our "drawer" supply! Our undies caught on the "bob-war" and that's all that saved them from a trip to Oklahoma.
Jane... those roses are gorgeous. You really have a way with them. Maybe you could come down here some week/month year and tend to mine! Love that image Toni mentioned about chasing your drawers! It's been a bit breezy here... which is welcomed since it's been on the warm side. But not winds like that, thank goodness!
I had to go back for a second look, not only to look at the beautiful roses, but also to check the date. Roses in bloom in April, lovely! I do love the antique rose, so delicate and cottagey. Beeeeutiful.
