Here is one of the camping area's. This is for tents.

    And the Park Ranger's station.

And a pic of the Appalachian Mountains, or Smokey Mountains. They get that name from the haze in the air.

Very nice Capt. Is that a golf cart the ranger uses? You must have seen plenty of wildlife during your vacation yes?

The golf cart is used by the hosts to check up on the campers and clean up the spots after the campers leave. Richard, my friend was inside talking to the Ranger, when I snapped the pic. It makes getting around the park really convienent. They have to check on the campers 3 times a day and on weekends make sure there is toilet paper in the restrooms. Most campers clean up there camp sites really well, so that isn't even a problem. They get quite a bit for the little bit of work that they do. It is a volunteer program and they get to camp for free, with water, sewage, ice and firewood thrown in. Great program. :D

It's great to hear that the campers clean up after themselves. The volunteers almost get all the free stuff for no work then. Sounds like a great program indeed.

Are the volunteers just campers themselves then? I would volunteer if I got all that free stuff!

They are campers that have signed up with the states volunteer program. They try to have two sets of volunteers at a time there. That way they each get 2 days a week off where they don't have to work and can go off to visit other places. It is a great program for the hosts and the rangers too. The rangers don't have to be there 24 hrs. a day. After hours the campers check in with the hosts. We did see some wildlife. Saw deer almost every morning and loads of squirrels etc around. But I see them here at my house most every day too, since I live in the country. I have 3 acres and the deer and other wildlife share it with me!

I have never seen a deer. Would love to, such beautiful animals... that's if they do not eat your prize growths :D

That's quite a good system alright. Have you ever volunteered or thought about it Capt?

I wouldn't mind doing it, but I don't have a camper or motorhome. And I am too old to sleep on the ground. I can barely get out of a raised bed! But yes I would do it if I could. A lot of states have this same program or one similar to it. I know Georgia limits you to 2 months in any particular park. But I know of people that go to the southern states and volunteer all winter and then come back up north like New York etc. in the summer. So they live in their motorhomes all year for free! Just the cost of gas and food. Pretty cheap way to live if you are retired and have the set up for it.

Wow really! That's an interesting life. May lose the novelty after a while but if you like it then what a good idea.

Oh life on the road... camping from place to place. What a romantic notion :)

I was going to post a pic of a deer that was almost up to my front door last Dec., but photobucket won't load for me to post the pic on there. They must be having problems with the site. :(

I think I may have this figured out. Still can't get into photobucket, but did find one similar to it called Filehigh.com. Let's try this now:

Yeeeeaaaa! It worked! He was a cheeky fellow, eating my shrubs when he was starving! But he really did me a favor. This past spring I was able to get in there and trim them way back to almost nothing and they came back better than before. If you look down at the lower right corner of the pic, you can see the edge of my front deck. I just stuck my head and arm out the front door and snapped the pic.
