It was a little late for most of the alpine flowers but there were some around. ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden )
Yes it is, Round leaved sundew, they say that, The plant feeds on insects, which are attracted to its bright red colour and its glistening drops of mucilage, loaded with a sugary substance, that cover its leaves.
Lovely wildflowers. I think we've got a relative of that carnivorous plant growing here. It's called Sundew, Drosera.
I keep trying to buy a sundew but every time I do they're sold out. I guess lots of people like having these, increasingly rare, plants in their gardens. Our nurseries grow them from seed so, fingers crossed, I may be lucky next time around.
Your Nature site is so interesting. Nature is so diverse and beautiful. I was in the mountains last year and found some really pretty flowers right along the road.
Hi Eileen, it is a strange plant, it is the secong one I have seen in the wild, the other was a lot closer to home. ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden )
Thanks for the photograph. It shows the detail of the plant off to perfection. Maybe some day I'll be able to take a picture of one that I have.
Awesome photos. Especially like learning some about the Sundew. Fascinating looking plant. Thanks for sharing it, Kildale.
