I'm usually not able to get early morning photos, but since I was up bright and early checking out the plants to see if anything was damaged (which thankfully not much was)and everything looked to so pretty with raindrops, I decided it was a good time to grab the camera. This bed around the light pole is starting to fill in. I think I need just a couple more plants though. Coneflowers, Osteospermum, TX Rock Rose, etc ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) This mum is really starting to put out alot of blooms... Mums ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) This Salvia "Black & Blue" was given to me by a co-worker. It finally showed it's "blue". Salvia Black ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) The wind almost blew over the Ballerina Angel Trumpet... so naturally I had to show it my appreciation by taking it's photo. Lotsa buds on the Cardoon ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Last but not least... and get your scratch n' sniff monitors ready.... the first bloom on the Gardenia that Hubby gave me last year. Wow Cheryl your garden is beautiful, everythings coming right along. Can't wait till I have flowers coming over from previous years and have a nice collection like you. I love gardenias too, there's one behind this place I keep trying to get a start off of. But I'm unsucessful. I know when they are in bloom when I'm driving and smell them.... Was your rain from the tropical storm too. I went out and my plants were standing taller. Lol
Thanks Laura! Hubby's sister can start a Gardenia from a cutting almost overnight! I don't have that kind of luck. He dug up a piece of the root of this one from his mom's old place. He's just as tickled to see it bloom as I am. Our rain wasn't from TS Andrea... it came straight out of the north. Mother Nature does a great job of watering (some of the time), doesn't she?
Cheryl, your plants are looking quite good, aren't they. Gosh...so much colour there. Its all just as pretty as can be.
Thank you Sjoerd. I went back and looked at my photos to see what was blooming at this time last year. Everything seems to be just about a month behind. I can't figure out if that's good or bad going into summer and the 100+ temps soon. Maybe having a wet spring will help them through?
Really a lot of beauty happening in your garden. Glad to see the Texas Rock Rose is doing well for you, I have more any time you need them . Be careful of that Blue and Black Salvia, it spreads by underground runners and will be every where in a year or so. I too was just comparing this year with last year and everything is about a month later than last year. Last Spring the temperatures were 10-20 degrees hotter than they have been this Spring. This Spring has not been anywhere near as wet as it should have been but the temperatures have been more enjoyable.
Netty and Cayuga... I was at Hubby's sister's this morning... she has Gardenias all over and they are loaded with blooms! Heavenly! Toni... Hmmm... didn't know that about the Black & Blue. I think the one in the front flower bed will suddenly disappear. The one in the back can stay since there's room for it (hopefully). And oh yeah... the TX Rock Rose is doing great. I moved it this spring from the front where I think it was getting too much sun... it looks so much happier in the back. Barb... My oldest plants are probably just 2 years old. And I've added alot just this year. I'm hoping they all thrive and mature to look like the gardens I see here!
