A while back I found a post with this question. I posted and never got a single hit. So I want to repeat it cause it still gives me goose bumps. I have outdoor speakers and have been listening to the oldies all day. When I was 22, hubby 23 we went to Toronto, Canada for a get away. We were walking down Young St. which was an education that still makes me blush. It was dinner time so we were reading store front menus. We pick a place and went in. Had a great dinner, great service. Waitress asked if we wanted to stay for show, if so she would give us front row center stage seats. We said sure. Place filled up fast. Show started and out came the PLATTERS. First song "Only You" They all came down off the stage and knelt in front of me and sang to me. Of course I melted. Anyways I've listened to that song a least 3 time today and still got goose bumps.
I wish I could say I have, but I avoid anything to do with the entertainment industry. No crowds for me if I can avoid it.
I once met a former governor. Out of office 18 years, at least most people in the audience recognized him. Jerry
Wow Donna that is really special. I've never meet anyone famous. Only Reha the painting horse. She stole my heart as I love horses.
Although I did not technically meet him, 2 Sundays ago, we went to a family restaurant close to our home for breakfast. We were waiting for a table and I saw 3 guys walk in. One was a 11 yr old boy, one of the men was "nondiscrip" but the 3rd man I recognized. First I noticed his arms covered in tatoos, hipster beard, and knit cap pulled down barely exposing his face. It was Jesse James(formally married to Sandra Bullock) They sat at the counter, scarfed breakfast and left without anyone bothering them. We did hear his chopper take off when he left.
When I was stationed in Virginia Beach, one Sunday morning I was visisting a friend who had a car repair shop. A big bus had pulled up and the driver wanted to know if he could fix buses. So he took a look at it and said that the generator was going out of it. He called a friend that had a junk yard and his friend had a generator that would fit it. So he went to get it. The driver wanted to know if his passenger could come in where it was air cond. and Bill said sure. So the driver went and got him. In through the door walked Louis Armstrong with his trumpet! He sat and practiced while his bus got repaired. So we had a private concert right in the shop. The bus was on it's way to New York where he had a show on Monday evening. Man could he play that horn!
Back in my younger days, I was waitressing in an upscale restaurant. It was a busy night and so a few of the bus-people were asked to serve tables. Because you have to be 18 to serve alcoholic beverages I was asked to serve wine at one of the young bus-persons tables. Imagine my surprise when I went to the table to discover I was serving wine to John Candy!!
Do any of you remember Hee-Haw? Both Roy Clark and Jana Jay have homes here in Grove and I have met both. Being from Northern Il. and working on a race horse ranch as a teen owned by Mobster Sam Giancana, I knew him very well. By the 1950s Giancana was one of the leading crime bosses in Chicago.
I saw an Elvis impersonator when the boot store opened--he was entertaining the crowd of three. Does that count? That's as close as I've gotten to anyone famous that wasn't under indictment.
I met Billy Gibbons of ZZ Topp at an Eric Clapton concert about 10 years ago. And I didn't actually meet Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, but I helped push his guitar case up the ramp into the truck. This was about 15 years ago.... I didn't wash my hand for days over that one!
Wow Capt Kirk: I too was stationed in Va Beach also. Might I add that Va Beach is a magnet for famous people. I've met many like Bobby Brown, Teddy Riley (Guy), Toni Terri (Everlasting Love)..he actually sang to me for my birthday..ooooo...but the most memorable was 1990/1993, I had the pleasure of meeting Lou Duva and George Benton (Boxing Manager and Trainer). I met them while doing housekeeping at the hotel that they would hold their boxing camp for Sweet Pea Whitaker, Meldrick Taylor, Mark Breland (Gold Medalist - Olympics), Holyfield..yes I knew them also..I was the only person who they would let clean the whole floor and I could do whatever I wanted and my supervisor couldn't touch me. Mr. Benton and I became really good friends for years and just last week, my mind rested on him and I googled him to see where and how he was doing...well sad to say, I had the breath knocked out of me because he passed away from pneumonia last year. It was a shock more than anything. Needless to say, because he was also a famous boxer in his days, I felt priviledged to have known him..awesome person.
A few years ago I was photo marshall at the commonwealth games and took photos of the Queen, at one time she was only three feet away as she left. Took photos of her and Prince William, have had over 320 prints made of one of the Queen's pictures, it was also on the back cover of Monarchy magazine.
The most famous person I have met is none other than our Frank in March 2010. It was indeed a delightful day. :-D
I met Johnny Cash when he was still doing concerts in small places. That was in the 50's. When we had a shop in Wisconsin we had a big glass case full of penny candy. Too my surprise Captain Kangeroo came in and bought a lot of penny candy. He stayed and talked awhile. Another time Trapper John from MASH came and bought penny candy and some kitchen antiques, too. He had his wife with him. dooley
When i was about six or seven i met Roy Rogers,..and the same parade on another occasion we met Hopalong Cassidy,..both famous American cowboys way back then,..i must admit i was mostly interested only in the horses they rode despite my dad trying to draw my attention to the men. Since then i met two American Presidents and shook hands,..but it was John F. Kennedy i had a conversation with,..i was a member of the Irish Presidential Motorcycle Escort,..Princess Grace was my first to escort.
