As you know, here in Texas we have a severe drought. In addition, the grasshoppers were especially bad this year and ate everything in sight. I was sure I had lost many of our roses as well as some shrubs, first by having all their leaves stripped and then lack of rain. I was so saddened by the loss that I didn't even weed the bed some of the roses were in--just tried to ignore it. This morning I got my courage up and went to weed. The roses are putting out new growth! I was grieving over a red rose planted this spring given to us by a friend/gardener down the road. This little rose, about 8" tall, has new leaves! Thank you, Mother Nature! Some of the shrubs are iffy--they have green stems but no other signs of life. However, if I get my roses back, I won't complain!
Well this sounds like a pretty good end to an otherwise unhappy tale. Got my fingers crossed for you, MG.
Yeah, Mother Nature!! Very glad your roses are coming back. I wandered around the yard this morning and found several surprise comebacks too.
Good to hear your hope has been restored. Roses can be so very resilient - just like gardeners! Here's to many more good surprises in your garden.
Happy to hear your rose survived Jane! My little "baby rose from seed" wilted away with the heat. I brought it indoors to try to save it, but it just couldn't take it.
It is amazing how much stress our plants can take. glad for you that you had a few things survive the summer drought. I am surprised not everything here wasted away from mold or just plain drowning. Today is nice, but we had rain yesterday and fore casted for the rest of the week except for friday I sure wish we could send all our extras down to you
Drought, fire, drowning and other nasties can't keep our loved plants down. Glad to hear your roses came back and wouldn't be surprised if your shrubs make a hearty rebound in the spring.
