Something funny happened to me on Friday/Saturday... Lots of "stuff" had been accumulating in my garage over the past year... boxes of this and that.... things to be donated to the Goodwill. My honey, Pancho was helping me... so we cleared out both of our cars and began loading.... This was Friday evening. He put two boxes in my trunk and then quietly (I think so as to not upset me) said.... "Uh oh..." and then "Uh, there is a mouse in your car now...." Oh no. But wait! There were soon TWO mice in my trunk. They were jumping out of the box! Luckily, he fetched that box out quickly and put it on the ground because there was a whole family of mice that had made a cozy nest in some old potholders! And they were escaping into my car. I happen to think mice are cute.... but I was NOT happy at the idea of mice loose in my car. With me. When driving. You know? So we made every attempt to shoo them out... One did eventually jump out and scurry off. But the 2nd one ran between the back seats and up into the driver seat area and then.... he disappeared up into the dashboard. Oh dear. We abandoned our planned trip to the Goodwill at that point and I set out four live traps... which stayed in my car all night long but caught no mouse. So we assumed he had made his way out on his own. OK. Next chapter. On Saturday, we finished the Goodwill run... did an errand or two, and then took Pancho's two boys and ourselves to a football game at the Naval Academy, then to dinner... After dinner, when I opened the car door to get in -- guess what jumped out!!?? Yup. We had a good laugh. Mr. Mouse had been in there for more than 24 hours. As for me, I am just glad he didn't decide to come out when I was driving on the freeway! And I will be more careful about boxes of stuff in the future. good luck, Mickey Mouse!
Those mice...you are right about him staying hidden while you were driving.. I would have had an accident if he appeared then. Great story
I haven't seen a mouse in I don't know how long. We have those electronic things that plug into the electrical outlets. I have one in every room in the house. It doesn't bother the dog but it emits a high pitch that sends mice and bugs back to where they belong, outside. I dislike setting traps or using poison. I'm glad your mouse found his way outside but he sure was far from his family. Do you think he will make his way back home? He should have waited for you to drive him. LOL dooley
We had a family of mice in a box in our shed one year. Didn't know they were even there until we took the box out (a steam cleaner) and gave it to my daughter as she wanted to borrow it. She has a cat that goes outdoors so must be used to seeing mice, rats etc. However, when the mice popped out of the box guess who ran away? Yep the cat!! Scared stiff she was of the little things. Now I have to check before giving anything in a box to Laura just in case Ally (the cat) has a heart attack!!! Thankfully none of the mice escaped into the car as we drove across town to where my daughter lives. Loved your story Daisy and I'm glad you didn't have a scare from your little passenger while driving.
Hahahahaha ...Oh Daisy, I laughed until my sides hurt....tears-in-the-eyes laughing. Oh dear...what a tale. You told that one so well. I guess every time you clean your car inside and out from now on, you shall refer to it as being `squeeky-clean`, right? ooops...here I go again.... Oh, my sides.....oh, oh.....
Oh you guys, your comments made me laugh. Right Jewell, I'd have had to drive off the road... Eileen, I had mice in my house one year and three cats at the time who were no help at all. Each of them scared, indifferent or downright friendly. Now I have a couple of those electronic things too Dooley -- they do seem to work. I have them at school too as we have lots of city mice in there sometimes. Dooley -- that is exactly what I said when I saw him jump out: "Oh, he is so far from him family..." Such softies, we are. And Sjoerd, squeaky clean, har har!
Eeeekk! Oh my...can't stand the things! Would have been my luck to have it come out from the dashboard while I was driving. So glad he stayed put, until the door opened for him.
A few years ago, my hubby and I were living in a duplex. I stored some birdseed in the garage to fill my feeders out back. One day I noticed a hole chewed in one of the bags and transferred all of the seed to a Rubbermaid container. I didn't think about it again as the mice had never come in the house. Well, I found out later that one of the mice had found a perfect place to hide his stash of seeds. He had put them all under the hood of the neighbor's car. The neighbor had to clean his car out before he could even start it.
We live in a rural area and there are tons of mice. This time of year they start looking for warm places so I faithfully set traps in the house. I've already caught 2 this fall, one of them with the dog and cats help (how do those little buggers get IN??) One year I had a bucket of cattle corn kernels in the dump box of my golfcart out in the garage and it was slowly disappearing. As the winter progressed we were amazed at the places we were finding kernels...the muffler of the snowmobile and lawn tractor, the garage attic, the toolbox...
You crack me up! I am afraid of mice, don't know why, think it has something to do with the tail You just never know where they are going to scurry off to. I was afraid you were going to tell us that he chewed through your car's wiring :-o Since you took him to town I was thinking of that movie Ratattouille
My husband had a little dance with a mouse this morning. He was trying to step on it, ugh, and the mouse was trying to get away. He finally got under our refridge so now we have traps set. They try to come in every fall when it cools outside and the farmers reap their crops. I'm glad your little mouse got away without causing a lot of trouble. wannabe
Haha! Deanna! That's so funny. Yes, mousie is in downtown Annapolis now. Maybe he will get on someone's sailboat and wind up in the Carribean. Wannabe, they definately caused some trouble! We were scurrying as much as they were when we first saw they and were trying to get them out. One year I grabbed a new bag of grass seed in the garage and when I opened it there was not a seed in there but the whole bag was filled with rag bits that the mice had pulled off of a car washing mitt! They had chewed off just one corner of the bag to get inside. Nice little condo.
Great story... I can see it happening. I am not scared of mice but if one ran up the leg of my jeans or something.....accident . Now a snake in my car ...I most likely would jump out of the truck while driving..I hate snakes, they scare me..
