My sweet daughter is almost ready to deliver her 3d child, and my 9th grandchild. She has a boy and a girl already, so they chose to not find out the sex of this one. It will be a surprise!! River, her first, was born in a hospital, but she chose to have Lucy, her second one, and now this one at home, just like me! All my kids were born at home....and that, really, is the purpose of this post. To tell you an amazing story. Dr. E and Joan were the attendants at all my births. They were just amazing, each of them. Dr. E was a doctor, Joan was a certified midwife. By the time Paige was born, Dr. E had passed away, so Joan delivered her. Joan herself has since passed away. This was all in California. Fast forward to late 2015, here in Tennessee where we've lived for over 20 years, after Paige found out she was pregnant. She liked the midwifery team who delivered Lucy, but had been hearing wonderful things in her various Mommy and Pregnancy groups on Facebook and other sites she frequents, about this amazing midwife called Cheryl, so she decided to schedule an appointment to check her out. In the course of that conversation, it came out that Cheryl was originally from California. Paige casually mentioned that she was born there, and that it was a home birth. Cheryl, equally casually, asked where and who.............. Yeah, you can guess where this is going, I'm sure. Cheryl was in fact trained by Joan, the woman who delivered Paige!!!! How amazing is that??? It still blows me away to think about it. The woman who delivered my daughter trained the woman who is delivering HER daughter!!!! My head just wants to explode, in an amazingly good way! Paige's due date is July 3rd. She went about 10 days over with River, and was right on with Lucy, so this baby is anyone's guess. She's in full-on nesting mode, and we've both been working our little tails off to get the house up to Paige's standards before the birth. She's a mini me, so she's anal and OCD and nitpicky as all get out. We've been scrubbing baseboards, looking for cobwebs in the corners, dealing with a thousand little bits and pieces that have been driving her nuts. I mean seriously, how could she possibly give birth to her child until the kitchen stopper has been scrubbed with a toothbrush? Or every curtain in every room washed? Or the tops of the kitchen cabinets dusted?? She may well read this because she's a member here so I'll just say that I understand completely her need to get this done, because I was exactly the same way, so I guess it's my fault, huh? I'll keep y'all posted, and you know I'm going to be blowing up the forum with all manner of newborn and sibling and Mommy and Daddy pics when the baby comes!
<sigh> Every time my phone pings I jump just a little. I left it in the other room while I was sleeping, and then had a major panic attack when I woke up and realized it wasn't right by the bed. Even when it's right by the bed, I wake up in the middle of the night and check to make sure it's on full sound and not just vibrate. I get nervous when it runs low on charge, and have chargers both in my car AND in my purse...just in case. I get momentarily anxious when Paige calls out to me from the next room, or even when she texts me with a "what're you doin'? "type text. When I'm with a client, and my phone isn't in my pocket or right there with me, I immediately excuse myself to go get it. More. Daughter-very-pregnant-could-pop-any-day-Syndrome.
relax Ronni. It comes in its own time and she has to do it herself. You are a good mom and grandma... just relax. breathe... again breathe....
