I never have had this before. I guess I should use sphagnum moss or bend the stalk down into another pot. It has no roots at this point.

Anyone know what to do with this baby?

I have never had the complete name but it's been around about 15 years.

Barb... can you get a clearer/bigger photo? I'm not certain that's a baby. Of all the aloes I've seen reproduce, they put out extra florettes (I think that's the right term) and not a single thin stem.
I certainly can be wrong.... just wondering...

I have never had one that multiplied like that. But,I would do it like a strawberry plant, just fill a pot, wet the soil and put the new pot under the baby and stick something on the runner to keep it in contact with the soil. Don't separate from the mother plant till you see active growth. Then just snip the runner.

donm, I will have to make a little shelf just a little higher than the mother to put the baby into a pot, maybe. This stem is very rigid.

I was thinking if anyone knows if there is a a plant that does this but just drops the baby onto the ground for it to root on it's own????? Could that be the answer?

I have never heard of one in the aloe family. You just need to find out what variety you have and read to see. I have a plant that does the same but I don`t know the name. Its called Moses in a Boat,,no idea why its called that. I think its related to Giant Jew. It looks similar. but multiplies differently.

i am working on the 5th generation Aloe after someone gave me a plant. They get so big and heavy 10-15 lbs. I take the offshoots, plant them and then I do not take in the big plant for the winter. The person I got the plant from had a houseful of aloe plants. I only keep 2 plants.
