Have you ever taken a really long time to notice that something in your house was installed incorrectly? I just noticed that after living in this house for 22 years that the one faucet in the bathroom (there are two sinks in the counter top Don't ask me why, I could never figure out why someone thought I needed TWO bathroom sinks since I can only use one at a time) But the cartridge in the one faucet is installed in reverse. The hot and cold are opposite compared to the other sink.
If we have two sinks in a bathroom over here they are for 'him' and 'her.' Needless to say we have only the one which is more than enough, in my opinion, for anyone.
Eileen, you may be right, but I kept saying when we built the house...I don't want two sinks and no one would listen. I wanted a diaper changing spot. My MIL wanted two sinks when they built their house and no one would listen...must be a man thing. Droopy, it has been this way this long so I'll wait until the cartridge needs replaced before it gets changed. Donna, I agree, just another thing to clean. If we ever replace the counter top I will insist on ONE sink in there this time.
Two sinks are for the benefit of those who sell them, not those who use them! We had two sinks for a few years when we lived in town. Rediculous! I don't want my husband to see me brushing my teeth, and I sure don't want to see him trimming his beard. Some things are best done in the privacy of a one sink bathroom. And the cold/hot in the laundry room was installed backwards, too. Carolyn, do you think we shared the same incompetent workman?
Our house was built in 1935, and we are constantly finding things that are backwards or just installed incorrectly. For example the upstairs bathroom plumbing vent was just a piece of hose that went directly into the attic! THe first time we got our septic tank pumped out the stench in the house almost killed me! The upstairs bathtub faucets were backwards too and they put siding and a tub surround right over a window! Every time we start a new project around here we worry about what we will find next!
I don't know whether to laugh or be irritated right along with you. What a story. Well, I am reckoning that there are two sinks in that counter-top so that two folks can bath at the same time. Cosy.
Jane, was his name Chuck? He also had a leak in a gas fitting that had to be fixed...after the drwall was finished. That meant ripping out a section of a ceiling and that was never finished after the gas leak was fixed. Since I don't use that bathroom I don't worry over it. Netty, You have my deepest sympathy on every new find. For me that is distressing because I know it is going to cost more than I had planned. S, yeah right, cosy! NOT. FOR. ME. jbest, I do have a mirror over themon the wall. I will have a chat with them for confusing me.
Over the last few months I have been watching more TV than usual and almost all the home remodel programs or ones like House Hunters push the double bathroom sink feature and if there aren't two there the prospective buyer will sometimes strike that house off their list because of it. I am with Jane, many things should be done in the privacy of a one sink bathroom!
We are amazed with the things we find in this house. I wanted a towel cabinet in bathroom. So I started taking down drywall and found a window with the glass still in it. There is a bedroom behind that wall. Then when I wallpaper bedroom I found another window with the glass in it. When I took old paper off the whole outline of window showed through drywall. So it reasoned that our bedroom and bath use to be a carport.
I lived in a town home for a couple of years that had a bathroom with two sinks. One, I never used and was designated for the cat to sleep in.
What I wanted was a place to change diapers. Well I couldn't even fit a baby's butt in there to rinse it off. I think that Toni is right...If a bathroom didn't have two sinks it wasn't salable I can't stand to brush my teeth when someone else is in there. If my DH comes in there I go to the laundry room. I can say that when the children were little it did make it easier at nighttime to get their teeth brushed all at once instead of in shifts. But still.....mostly just another sink to clean. Usually it has stuff in it though, like a towel or the hairdryer or someones "stuff". Donna... maybe that was as skilled as the "remodeler" got. Too bad for you though cause it makes extra work.
I believe they were cutting corners anyway they could. And had no building permits. When we built the sunroom and the inspector came he was very firm about what could and couldn't be. He tried to fine us for a concrete slab that is out back. It was a dog run that previous owner had poured without a permit.
