WOW Kildale you certainly have a great variety of species that visit your garden for water. I agree that water is an essential part of looking after our garden creatures. Not only the birds love to bathe and drink from it but small mammals do too. I also have a pond which is inhabited by a miriad of bugs, frogs, toads and newts. It even attacts dragonflies and damselflies. That's why I wouldn't be without water in the garden as it gives me an endless supply of wildlife to keep me happy. :-D
We have a small garden pond and raccons come to it to try and get the one fish we have. Had the fish for a few years now. Never see any frogs and such which would be a treat for sure. We have squirrels, I've trapped and moved over 140 to the woods. I only trap them when they come up on to the deck where I feed the birds.
kildare You wont believe this. I have a bird bath up for 2 years now. I have seen only 2 times a bird was in it? Beats me why. May have something to do with the 3 dams of water in my meadows? Easy access. We have lots of the say types.
If I were a bird, I'd head straight for your house, Kildale. I love watching the birds in my birdbath or flying in and out of the sprinkler.
Well, that was a treat on a grey Tuesday morning. I enjoy watching birds having a bath. The way they duck their head down and come back up, shaking their feathers and spraying their friends. They look so happy and they always make me laugh. I'm particularly fond of watching the sparrows having a bath, since they chirp a lot. It sounds like they thoroughly enjoy the experience. Up here there's weather prediction also regarding birds and bathing. It claims that if a magpie takes a bath the day will stay dry.
Well I didn't know that Droopy - interesting. The magpies here haven't taken a bath in a long time so I guess that's why we're having so much rain!! Maybe if I heated the water, left out some nice scented soap and fresh towels they'd feel more inclined. Could certainly do with some dry weather for a change.
