I have a mockingbird that decided my bird & suet feeders are his territory. He particularly targets the bluebirds, blue jays and cardinals. So the bluebirds have been staying away. They came for a visit on New Year's Day :-D

The bluebirds are so colourful. The blue/orange contrast is so eye-catching

Erm... I hesitate to ask but ... would you mind if I copied your Bluebird photographs to send to my daughter? She's never seen a Bluebird and I know she'd love to see yours if you agree.

Thanks Frank, they are one of my favorites. Thank you Barb, they light up the winter landscape. Eileen I do not mind if you share by photo. Kildale I am lucky they have been nesting in my yard for the last 3 years. Last year they started coming to the feeders :-D

    Gorgeous foto's, Gail.
You really are getting lots of lovely birds there. I had no idea that blue birds would be arriving in January.

    Eileen, glad to share them.
Thanks Sjoerd, the Bluebirds are here year round but don't come to the feeders on a regular basis. They prefer bugs and berries. I think they have been staying away because of the Mockingbird chasing them off.

You're probably correct about the MockingBird, they are very aggresive birds..

I have blue birds year around also. The house they live in is falling apart. But I'm afaid if I replace it the birds will be frightened off.

We have many bluebirds all year long. Probably because they like to be in dense growth of shrubs along a forest like looking out to open fields. That's how our land is structured and that's their favorite kind of spot. That way, they can easily spy flying and ground bugs, fly out and snatch them and get back to protection. I do see them sitting on a lone fence in the sun out in the open, during brooding, on guard.

That's why I grow mealworms. They like megaworms and wax worms also. I love to see them flying in playful little groups against a white snowy background. That's a beautiful sight in just a split second. They get used to me feeding them the very special diet even in the Winter.

This is the first time I've had a problem with them Henry. Donna I have the same problem. I tried to take the house down to clean it and paint it and the birds were frantic looking for it. So I put it back up and will wait for a warm day to work on it outside. I put up a new one last summer maybe they will begin using it.
