What beautiful flowers it has! About how many years has it been growing to get to be so pretty?

Wow, that's a crowd pleaser. I have never seen one before. How long does it stay in bloom?

    Hi Eileen,
yes its a beautiful contrast, yellow and red,..and discovering its Scottish is a bonus.

    Cheryl,
i started it from a cutting,..its nearly a 100% success to start from a cutting,..i have two of them growing since 2006,..below is a shot of it in 2008 against the white wall.

    Jerry,
it remains in bloom for several weeks,..i don't remember seeing another in these parts apart from the parent plant i took my cutting from.

Here are some shots taken in 2009,..it gets VERY heavy with blooms.

    Hi Deanna,
i can understand!,..with so many flowers on this bush you certainly would have a lot of Pollen.

The other thing of course is that "Spanish Broom",..is classed as a noxious weed in Canada and some States in the US,..i think in Oregon as well!,..lots of people confuse "Spanish Broom",..with "Scotch Broom",..and i was such a person until today.

On the Internet you will see several reliable Garden Sites referring to the YELLOW flower on "Scotch Broom",..whereas its YELLOW and RED,..and that "Scotch Broom drops seeds and is VERY invasive,..after 5 years i have never had a seed take,..so it makes one think?.

Philip, that is spectacular! (You do realize, of course, that if you persist in posting these wonderful photos that I'm going to run out of superlatives).
And you started that from a cutting--I'm impressed.
We have a "broom" here in Texas, which is in the aster family. Nothing as gorgeous as your broom, but ours is a nice fall-blooming wildflower.

    Thanks Pianolady,
oh you should make every effort to travel while there is nothing holding you,.. most of the time something or other will hold you back,..so take advantage,..its even more interesting if your ancestors came from where you visit.
