I live in MD and we have had a very unusual winter and now spring. I live in a condo and have plants in big pots on my porch. My tuberous begonias are up with large leaves, my portulaca in the birdbath on the deck are doing fine, but my 2 big pots of calaciums have yet to poke through. And, last night it got down to 40 degrees F. It IS the end of May, isn't it??? At this rate they'll never come up. They're new bulbs and I'm very anxious to see them.

Make sure the soil is staying damp and it has good drainage and they will come up when the temperature is ready for them.
I am in zone 8a with temps already in the 80-90 degree range and mine just starting showing up earlier this past week.

It's been such strange weather here ... we have a warm week and then it gets cold. Last night it went down to 42 ... tonight I think it's to be 46. Then next week it's to get warm again. Crazy weather.

I set my caladium back outside in March (like I did the year before). They have been putting on tiny leaves... but just in the last few days when our temps finally starting reaching the upper 80s ... they are putting out much larger leaves. So, as I was told.. just be patient.

Caladiums are tropical and 40 is too cold for them to do anything. keep them warmer and wait.

I had no idea that caladiums were tropical. That sure explains a lot. Thanks for the info.
