Some of you are lucky enough to live in places where you can garden all year. My gardening season ended last November, and we have had a long, cold winter. Now the weather is getting a bit warmer and the snow is starting to melt. I have been taking pictures of my birdbath to show the amount of snow cover. This might give those of you in warmer climates an idea of the snow cover here, and how long it takes to melt. This first picture, taken last June, shows the bird bath.

Here is the same area and bird bath at the end of February - totally covered with snow!

Here it is again, this picture taken on March 10th

So as you see, it will still be a while before I can do any gardening! There is also a chance there will be MORE snow ... we had a couple of snowfalls later in the month last year, as well as another snowfall on April 26th last year. For those of you that think this is too much snow, ask Chrisle how much snow she got this year!

I wish I could garden all year round but June through Sept are out for me and by then my garden is ready to retire also.

I wish mine looked as good as yours in Spring, Summer, Fall and even Winter. ;)

June thru September are the prime months for gardening here in Southern Ontario Toni. I guess it would be too hot in your parts then? I am really itching to get out into the gardens, mostly the veggie garden. I just used my last onion from last year, I am down to a jar each of pickles and salsa, 2 jars of tomatoes and my dried herbs are almost gone too. Come on spring!

Hang in there, the snow will soon melt.i lived in Minnesota and it took forever for the spring to come most years. Now I'm in Idaho and we've had spring weather for a month. I love it.

That time of the year is too hot for me, but others really like it. Migraines and heat exhaustion have hit me in the past and they are not fun. With very, very few days with even a single cloud in the sky there is very little shelter from the evil day star and even in the shade the temps will be hovering between 95-110 (35-43C) and humidity around the 70% range, it's just too much.
Your summer temps are what we get in March and April.

Netty, I love the photos of your garden--reminds me of the gardens we had in upstate New York! Sometimes I miss the greenery, but then I think I don't have to shovel the "whitery" all winter.
We are planting now (some zinnia seeds from a very nice gardener among other things) and enjoying the weather. In late June, July, August, and the first part of September we do our gardening early in the morning and then hide inside until evening when we can sit on the patio and enjoy the relative cool.
If sweating keeps your pores open and healthy, I have some of the healthiest pores in the country!

Getting closer! Here is yesterdays picture

There are still some huge snow drifts, but they are melting slowly. It has been melting at a good pace ... there hasn't been any flooding and the sump pump hasn't started running yet.
I am just getting too excited to start the yard work! :smt026

I get to garden all year round but sometimes I wish that there are 4 seasons here too!
Looking at your photos makes me want to experience winter especially the part that you are experiencing now but not the harsh part. :)

Netty--I just discovered your countdown to spring & it brought a smile to my face! It gives me hope! This has been a record snowfall year for the Boston area and in central MA we probably still have ?3 feet of compacted snow. BUT it is receding gradually! We know this because we have to keep repositioning our mailbox. It got detached from its pole long ago & is now just shoved in a hole in the snowbank.

Your photo of your summer garden is gorgeous! How nice to look forward to that!

Looks like there is still a good amount of snow on your ground. I live in NH and the past few days have been doing well for melting a good amount of snow off our grounds until this morning. This morning I woke up to a blanket of snow covering the roads. What a surprise to see on the first day of Spring! And not a good surprise at all for most of us.

Riccur, Welcome to The Stew. Yes, we also had enough snow to shovel the driveway this AM. But it won't last long, right?

You must be from NH? It didn't last long at all! I ended up driving out to work this morning when the roads were snow covered, and when I left work in the afternoon the roads had no snow on them and the sun was peeking out from the clouds. It was a good way to brighten the day.

We were getting rid a lot of snow here in NY with a few warmer days and just like that we had snow yesterday just a few inches. Not much but enough to crush my optimism of spring lol. Now we our forecast is for 30's till Thursday then back to the 40's & 50's again.

Nice it is good to see those temperatures in the horizon. The heat is going to get all this snow off the ground for us to start planting.
