When I was just a kid in geography class all I remember about Norway was the fjords. In fact ask a lot of people about the first thing that comes to mind when they think about Norway and they will say fjords too. But it's easy to see why from your links Droopy. Have you visited a lot?
Now just how do I describe in words the beauty of what Mother Nature provides?? Stupendous, magnificent, glorious, spectacular ...... print just doesn't quite do the photographs justice does it? I would really love to see such landscapes for myself - maybe someday.
There are lots of fjords, and I've seen most of those south of me and a few further north. I live by the fjord ending in Geiranger, so naturally I like it best. Can't avoid them if I want to go to Bergen by car, for instance. The coastal road is by far the most interesting, scenery-wise, but we have som nice mountain walls further inland as well. If you check out the first picture in the fourth row in this link: http://www.trollveggen.net/bilder2.php you'll find a wall climbers love. Lots of base jumpers have been killed in that wall. Base jumping has been banned for years because of the nasty winds there, but the jumpers won't pay any heed to that.
Beautiful pictures Droopy. I don't know the background to the name Seven Sisters waterfall other than there appear to be seven falls there, but when you click on the picture and get the two closeups, I could swear I see the profile of a woman's face in the one on the right. And the difference between April and June in Flydalsjuvet is spectacular, I would visit there in April in a heart beat. And the farm across the fjord from Seven Sisters waterfall, ideal location. And winter in Geiranger looks cozy. I have loved the word fjord since World Geography classes in school, such a cool sounding word.
Of course I live in the world's best spot, who doesn't? The Seven Sisters are named so because there are seven falls, well - normally. When very wet or very dry there are more or fewer. Across the fjord is the Suitor. One fall is called the Bridal Veil. In winter Geiranger is totally cut off due to large snowfalls in the surronding mountains. No way to keep the roads open. I believe there is a ferry a couple of times a day. In summer when the big ships visit, there can be several thousand people swarming around. I wouldn't like it there. Too narrow. When Dan was in the navy his ship stopped in Norway. He took his bike and biked all over the area. He said it was beautiful and the cleanest country he had seen. It was a contrast to Naples whose harbor was the dirtiest he saw in his tour. Some people have more pride in their countries than others, I guess. Here some areas are beautiful and clean and others are just trashy. Gardener's help make a place beautiful. Cheers to the world's gardener's. dooley
