my first iris blooms!!!

    hi everyone!! hope all is well and your all enjoying the beginning of spring. i woke yesterday morning to find my first iris blooms had opened, so i thought id share them with ya :-D

    Wow! The 'katharine hodgkin' is such unique colors.
    I noticed that one of my Iris is just about ready to open... I can't wait!

    thanks guys, i was very excited too cheryl. never had them before so couldn't wait for them to open. bit disappointed to learn that the reticulata will only flower this year and thats it. didn't know this when i bought them :(

    i believe so. . . they need some really hot weather through summer and i just dont get it here in england. my hodgkins will be back though :-D

    None of my iris are showing yet so it's lovely to see yours in bloom. The katharine hodgkin is unusual and very pretty.

    beautiful coloring, Lukey, thanks for sharing it with us! Blooms Once? I just couldn't believe that a flower would only bloom once so I looked it up and I don't see that it only blooms once. So I guess you will have to check back in with us next spring and let us know whether it bloomed again.

    I got the info from a tv programme I'm watching at the minute called the a-z of gardening. It said how the bulb Iris's can struggle to come back each year with flowers, I may get foliage?? This is because their natural habitat (mountains of Turkey and Afghanistan) the heat bakes the bulbs, which I assume is good for them??

    Checked your link for my hodgkin, these are one of the few that does come back each year. However my blue iris, which I think is the Reticulata?? Doesn't. I'll watch said programme again and see what it says :)
