On November 17th, my first ever Nasturtium bloomed. Back in August I planted some seeds just because and got lots of smallish plants. I figured mid-November and no blooms meant that I would have to try earlier next year. This morning I found this, isn't she sweet? She's a real litle beauty Toni. I love nasturtiums as they not only look good - their leaves and flowers are great in salads.
They are in the same Order: Geraniales but the next step is Family and they are different from there on down the line.
Nasturtiums look lovely, but a word of warning. They can take over whole gardens while you're looking the other way..... You've been warned!
What a lovely thing that is, Toni. I am surprised that you got the nloom before winter. Hats off to you!
Toni, in our Texas and Louisiana heat they actually do better as cool season annuals. They will die down when the heat gets them.
I really like it when they take off. The show they make is lovely. And if they go too far we eat them.
Love 'em. The frost finishes them off in my garden, but they seed around the pond and look great. I also grow them on the allotment as a sacrifical plant as the blackfly are attracted to them and not my broadbeans. Gorgeous colour Toni.
