I never thought about planting tulips before last fall. I bought red and black ones. This is the first one that bloomed.....finally. I think most of the others are not getting enough sun so it has slowed them down.
I cannot find the name of this one, the black ones are Queen of the Night.

My tulips are moving along nicely, but not ready bloom quite yet. Can't wait to see mine in their pots. I had mixed colors so I will be surprised when they bloom.

I'm so envious of you southern gals! I won't see mine bloom until at least the end of April.

Very pretty...please post a picture of the black one too..is it a true black or a purple one? I guess you would have to go by the picture until it blooms. I don't think I have seen black tulips...

Now Toni...! That is a remarksbly beautiful tulip. I love bright red, and that yellow 'eye' really sets it off.
Are we in for more pics soon?

I found the name info on the red tulip. A Darwin Hybrid- Oxford. Not sure there will be pictures of others, I checked more of the buds and there are not very many that will actually have blooms.
And I am not familiar with how freeze resistent they are, if we get the wet snow in the forecast for tomorrow there might not be anything left to bloom anyway.

We grow Dawins here. I have had the Queen of Night in my garden for years, and it's been cold too. One year my mother's tulips were blooming above approx. 10 inches of snow. Those early things have built-in de-freezer I think.

    They are suprisingly tough.
I've had them come up early, for here, then get another cold snap for a week or so, snow on them too and they still finish coming up and bloom when it warms back up.
    The red is very pretty.
Queen of the night is a "very late blooming" variety the darwin a "mid" season. It may take a couple more weeks before the queens come to bloom.

That one bloom is still the only one. :( You would think out of 5 dozen bulbs planted there would be more than one bloom.

Wrennie, it's good to know there is still hope for the Queen of the Night tulips those are the ones I really wanted to see.
