We added fish to our pond this year but it gets very iced up so we brought them inside over the winter. We have a large pond so they are protected from our cats but i think "Rocky" is planning on eating them before we can get the back into the safety of the pond.

Uh ohh.... looks like Rocky has plans for those fish indeed.
Or maybe he just likes watching them? :D

Rocky is waiting for the fish to grow to a more edible size. Cats are always finicky about their food. Someday when you least expect it.......

When my brother had his pond with fish in it, he used to put a livestock heater in it in the winter. It wasn't a large one, maybe 6 ft across and 2 ft deep. Then he would cover it all with a tarp. His fish used to survive our winters here in Ohio.

Hes trying, mainly as theres not much outside for him to go after the pond across the road is iced up, there's no mice for him to catch and the snow is stopping him from getting the birds.

Never stopped to think how winter affected a cat's hunting routine before. :-D

    That picture is so funny.
Is your pond 3 feet deep? We have temperatures 20 below 0 some winters & our fish live over.We have one of those fountain bubblers & keep it running. It keeps a small unfrozen area around it with only a little attention now & then. This has worked for at least 12 years.

    thanks guys,

although pond is quite wide its about 2ft deep. a bubbler could work. but it seemed easier to bring them in for the winter.

Poor little kitty, he must be very frustrated by looking at all that lovely food and not getting hold of any. :D
