My Franklinia Tree

    This is the first bloom for this year. There are many buds all over it this year.

    I love this tree. It's only about 5 feet tall and I won't let it get any taller.

    Never heard of it and did an online search. sure is a pretty bloom.

    The history is very unusual about this plant. I plan to take clippings of this later today, when it gets light. :D

    Franklinia alatamaha tree. In 1765, John and William Bartram discovered the only group of these trees in Georgia. He collected seeds and grew them at his home in Pa. They had gone extinct, in the wild, by about 1800.

    When you find them at garden centers, they are direct descendents from seeds collected by William Bartram.

    I have 2 of them. I love them.

    Hi Barb,..that's a very eye catching bloom,..and thank you for the interesting history of the "Franklinia alatamaha tree",..you are lucky to have two of them and i can see why you love them.
