KitKit showed up as a kitten two summers ago (people are forever dumping kittens on our street)! He was injured and looked like he'd been hit. He wouldn't let us near him, so we left food out -salmon racing dog food! Rich and the boys won this very expensive (over $100 a bag!) dog food dryland mushing and, of course, the dogs refused to eat it! It was just right for KitKit. We tried to catch him for a year, it wasn't until 'he' had kittens last summer we caught HER and took her to the vet for shots and spaying. We have tried to find her a home, since our 4 siberian huskies want to make a meal of her! She sleeps each night in the unfinished side of the basement and spends the day hopping around the yard. no help but lots of encouragement! ( photo / image / picture from CrisGzr's Garden ) She stays right with me as I work in the garden! The dogs watch from the screen room and complain! I wish I could have found her a home, because she would really love to be a house cat but I do enjoy her gardening company! Some of the best pets I've had were the one's that found me. She looks like a very nice garden friend. It's great that she's found a home that treats her so well.
She's a lovely one, your KitKit. I do hope you'll manage to find her a home. What a shame your doggies won't let her stay. Our two cats both moved in, and I can't remember having invited them either. This is seven or eight years ago and they're both still here.
I agree cuatro-gatos, I have never bought an animal, always a rescue or like Kit Kit, she rescued herself with us! She never leaves the yard and if I strange dog enters, she runs up to the deck, where the stranger comes face to face with the four siberian huskies! Droopy, our dogs want her to stay, they would love to eat her! Siberian huskies have an overwhelming prey instinct. KitKit will rub against the window and try to flirt. Once my husband had this great idea that we'd teach the dogs to like her! One day as I sat with Kit Kit on my lap cuddling her outside, he came up behind me with our alpha dog. He claims he thought I saw him... as fast as lightning the dog grabbed her tail and Kit Kit bit me! I got such a cat scratch infection! It was terrible!
This is three of the beasts KitKit wants to live with! And they would love to have her visit! The fourth one is the most successful hunter, she actually caught a rabbit in mid-jump as my mother-in-law walked her! You could hear her screams in the next state as Tala swallowed it in two bites! KitKit's frenemies ( photo / image / picture from CrisGzr's Garden ) This breed always ends up in shelters and they are very difficult to adopt because they are so much more than a pretty face!
It probably didn't look like you had anything to steal that was worth the risk of facing those four. I can fully understand why you can't keep Kit Kit. Imagine, a rabbit! I would probably have screamed higher than your mother.
Sadly, it looks like we are stuck with KitKit, we can't find anyone to take her. As long as she is happy in the unfinished basement at night, she can stay! One good thing, she is fast-our alpha pushed through the door once as I was entering and chased her up a tree and he was easy to catch! Siberians are notorious for escaping but I figure as long as KitKit can climb a tree, we are all happy LOL
Look at those three friendly pairs of eyes, they just exhuberate "Come and play!". I think all of your pets are cute Cris, thanks for posting.
It's such a pity that no-one will adopt KitKit. As long as she steers well clear of those Siberian huskies of yours I'm sure she's got a home for life. She certainly looks as though she's enjoying life being around you. :-D
EIleen, I would miss her terribly but would happily give her to a home that would allow her to be an indoor cat. It's a weird life she has but I guess we all adapt. In a few minutes, I will go downstairs and hug and cuddle with her as I do some laundry. She loves it when I sort the laundry from the laundry shoot. Then I open the door, she runs out, I lift the litter box to a high shelf and allow the dogs in and they run around searching for a random piece of cat food. So, I don't even worry about insects attracted to cat food LOL For the rest of the day the dogs watch her from the screen room as she hunts, bathes or drinks from puddles. She will watch them too from the deck. I guess the drama keeps them all from getting too bored!
Thank you Donna! Ronda is close by, I'm in Pilot, near Cook School Rd on 52! -do you know anyone who needs a lovey-dovey house cat? I am also splitting hostas, do you need any? Also, irises, lilies & peonies -Cris
Hi Cris, beautiful dogs,..a great deterrent against burglars as you found out,..KitKit seems very attached to your company and you to KitKit,..it would be a pity to see her go to a new home as i am positive you would miss her terribly,..but then again it would be worse if your dogs managed to catch her some day,..its like playing Russian Roulette,..you are between the devil and the deep blue sea.
