Been doing a little more work on the new flower bed. Got the edging in and have planted some more flowers.
My original idea was to make this a "tropical" garden.
But I've gone a different direction. I've been collecting plants from my Aunt's yards. Kinda making the flower bed dedicated to family members. So far, I've gotten Canna and Canna Lily from one. Lilys and Pencil Bamboo from another. The Texas star came from one. I've got some Butterfly Ginger Lily from another Aunt to put in (just not quite ready to transplant yet). I've re-transplanted the Kalanchoe that my Mom originally had planted there next to the porch.
Still have four Aunts to go!

Here's a close-up of the Pencil Bamboo. I fell in love with this plant when I saw it. It just screamed "take me too"! My Aunt said that that's about as large as it will get. No thicker than a pencil... and only about 2 foot tall. It does put out more clusters, but since the roots aren't very big or deep, you're able to just pull up the unwanted ones.

Looking very good. I love seeing pictures of gardens in progress and look forward to later this summer when things have filled in.

I like your idea of a family orientated bed Cheryl. Every time you look at an individual plant you'll be reminded of one of you relatives. :-D The edging looks really good and ties in nicely with the gravel. Let's hope the other four aunts all have something nice to add to the new bed too.

You garden is coming along nicely. Getting plants from family & friends is a great idea (and economical ;) )

Oh I'm jealous :D I want to plant something so bad I just can't stand it!!! However, today it is snowing sideways  so it will be a while longer before I can start. I love the shape of that bed! I also like the fact that it is right there for everyone to enjoy :-D

New beds have that bare, tidy look, don't they. And in just a couple of years you're wondering why you planted stuff so close together. :D Lovely border, and what a clever idea to make it a family border.

It looks great and I just love that you've collected things from all of your family members. That makes it such a conversation starter. The pencil bamboo is very interesting looking -- nice for a change in texture.
