You may remember me mentioning that I'll be moving to my mum's old house this year. Here's an impression of how things were, and how they develop. I plan on adding photo's as things progress. Painted from real life in her art class. Poor model had to sit there naked for a number of hours in the cold! . It's going to be put into storage, as it is not quite my thing. There will be a beautiful English wallpaper instead)
Very nice house and living space gardenelf. Can't wait to see the gardens a little later in the season. Just wondering why you removed the wood floor in the livingroom? It looked nice as far as I can tell. Will you be adding carpet or new wood to the floor?
What a great place to get to re-do.....inside and out. We love 'in progress' photos! So many places for new plants, in a way I really envy you and in a way I am soooo glad it's you and not me.
Love all the garden areas. The gardens and house look like fun to me. I'm sure all will be beautiful as you make it yours.
Do love all those garden areas. They would be so much fun to work and enjoy the beauty. The house will be lovely when you get it done. House re-dos are not always as pleasant as playing in the flower beds. You will have a top job done when finished I am sure.
That is a nice home and I like the private looking back yard. I can't wait to see what all you do to it, inside and out.
What a lovely space, inside and out, to inherit! Please let us know what you are doing, and post photos of your progress if you can.
What a blessing. I also look forward to seeing your progress and decorating tastes. Yes that is a rather unusual staircase. But love the yard.
That is a lovely house and I'm sure you'll make it into a lovely warm home sweet home . The garden would need lots of muscle power to move those blocks if you want to remodel it. I'm sure all will turn out great, congratulations! Can't wait to see the final results!
What a cute little place. I would have sooo much fun fixing it up the way I would like. Can't wait to see what you do with the gardens.
Thank you everyone, yes, I am indeed a lucky lady. However, I keep thinking what my mum would say if she knew what I'm doing to the place. In the care-home where she is, she keeps saying she wants to go home, because "she has a perfectly adequate house of her own". Very sad, but an inevitable result of advanced dementia.... Netty, it was a maple floor, in dire need of renovation. It would have cost just as much to have renovated as a new floor. On the photo you can't see what it really looked like when standing on it. Oh, and when it was taken up, we discovered this floor had been laid in a very VERY bad way. What a bodge-job! The entire concrete floor is now full of holes where plugs & screws once were. A Swiss cheesemaker would be proud of it. If all goes to plan, 2nd week of April, there'll be a nice new smoked whitewash oak floor
Enjoy your new home is right... how exciting for you. Your garden area is beautiful...so many things you can accomplish out there. The stone work is beautiful and I love the moss growing in between the stone. It will be nice seeing it come to life with your ideas. ENJOY...I am sorry to hear about your Mom...my Mom always wanted to go back home too. Who wouldn't but sometimes it is impossible.
