My friend has been making these rain gauges. Just perfect for this summer of drought!!! ( photo / image / picture from Kay's Garden )
That's too funny! Last year during our drought... one of the hardware stores had a big sign out front... Inventory Reduction... Rain Gauges 90% off!
We had a large lack of rain this Summer and I didn't find it very funny but this whole topic is very funny now that we are getting rain. *feel so very badly for those fellow Stewers that have not had rain yet* Barb in Pa.
Barb, it isn't really very funny for me since our rainfall the past two months has been none. Dry as an old bone. :'( We're tryin to keep our senses of humor.
Thanks Barb, and I do hope when it does rain on me, it will fill more than this bottle cap! Things are drying up!
Oh, Kay, I sure hope you get a little rain soon. We are not as dry as we were, but it isn't by much. The amount of rain we have had is just enough to keep the plants alive and that is almost it. I did see a few more beans tonight than we have had all summer on the plants. There have been NO greenbeans here to speak of this summer. very unusual for our area. The corn is about 1/2 the size of normal IF even that. I haven't seen many cukes from the patch across the road due to the dryness of our weather Same story for almost anything that hasn't been watered or irrigated somehow.
Hi Kay, i wish we could export some of our rain in your direction,..we have rain here every day for weeks,..torrents of it,..then temperatures rising up to 32C/90F,..today was similar,..heavy rain and its 27C/80F,..knock on wood you get a good shower of rain.
You and me alike, Philip! Fortunately the rain's been falling at night, and the days have been relatively dry. Still, it's wet.
Thanks for the wet well wishes. Unfortunately, cough, cough, sputter, sputter... still dry. We don't even believe the weather reports anymore, "chance of rain" has been such a tease. Today is my designated watering day, so I've given my plants a good drink. Drought sucks!!
Yuck!! a rain gauge that measures in micro inches. I have a friend that lives north of you in Wahoo, he has two ponds on his farm and one is now dry from irrigating grass for his sheep. No rain in sight. :-( Jerry
Just wanted to report that today 8/24 we are finally getting some actual RAIN. Not just the pitiful spits of wet, but real falling from the sky, making puddles RAIN!!! So far we have an inch and 1/2. Now, it won't cure this drought by any means, but it has been almost exactly 2 months since any measurable precip. Geesh!! It is so refreshing! I think people are in happy moods today. We even worked in it today and didn't even care! Friends are calling friends to see how much is in their gauge!! Got the rain barrel filling, home and dried off, watching my plants get a much deserved drink. YEAH I think it's supposed to rain tomorrow too, woohoo!
