Philip is your lungworth also known as pulmonaria (boraginaceae) pulmonaria ( photo / image / picture from carolyn keiper's Garden ) it's past the flowering season for us so all that's left is a spent flower/seed pod. pulmonaria leaf ( photo / image / picture from carolyn keiper's Garden )
Hi Lukeypukey, here is a shot of the Lungworth for you,..even the leaves are similar. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) Hi Carolyn, yep you got it right,..Lungworth is "Pulmonaria officinalis,..i love it!,..it flowers for me early spring,..and the leaves are to be seen throughout the year. Philip, yours is beautiful, Mine seems to get too much shade think or maybe not enough fertilizer. What do you do to yours, I probably shouldn't hit it with the weedeater when I'm trimming, either. OOPS!!!!
Lol,..Weedeaters encounters are not a great help!,..mine likes watering and the occasional dose of Miracle Grow,..i started with one,..now i have six and gave some away,..so mine are thriving.
Thanks Philip, I truly didn't realize it was still alive when I was out the other day trimming. It blooms before I get to that flower bed in the spring. so i never see it in bloom. I'll try moving it and fertilizing it. Maybe I'll get it to look a little better. Is putting it by my ferns maybe a better place? right now it is under my redbud. moisture isn't a problem here. we can't seem to get a little dry. rain in the forecast everyday this week..... again
They say it disappears given too much heat and dry conditions,..but its a survivor,..and will really hang on,..along with your ferns would be a good idea,..forest soil best describes its ideal conditions,..so part shade is good,..oh do put it in a good spot and you will be pleased at the start of next spring,..and throughout the winter with the leaves.
Lovely pictures! I'd love to grow a large range of herbs like this. Problem is I cant stop planting vegetables and i havent got the biggest growing area as it is! Maybe next season then :-D
