I bought a six pak of celebrity tomatoes at Home Depot on Sunday, along with three larger tomato plants. I started to transplant the six pak to larger pots this morning and discovered they were never thinned out and there were multiple tomatoes in each slot. So, I got more pots and divided them as if I planted so many tomatoes in one pot they would all produce small tomatoes. So, out of six came twenty. Since I paid $2.19 for the six pak and got twenty tomatoes I paid 10.9 cents apiece for my Celebrity tomatoes. I kindly gave them each a drink of vitamin B to get them started. Picture now. Dooley
Wow Dooley what a break. You will need to toast Home Depot with a Bloody Mary made with fresh tomatos, later this season.
What a good deal Dooley and they all look very healthy. Do you make sauces out of them? I am looking for a good, tried and true marinara sauce that I can make and freeze. I lucked out like that last fall with my Blue and Black Anise Sage. I bought a pot that was supposed to contain one plant, got home and found three. This year each of those three has multiplied by three.
Happened to me with impatiens, I bought a pack with 18 and each had at least 2, some 3 plants. Good deal Dooley.
Don't you just love plesant surprises? Twelve years ago when I moved into the house I now live in, my neighbor brought me a six pact of flowers of some sort. There was a different seedling so I put it in a pot and nurtured it. Turns out it was a tree and is now pretty big. I still have no idea what kind it is though. Guess I'll have to post a pic on plant ID and see if anyone knows. The only thing I have found that resembles it was a sugar leaf maple. I didn't plant any tomatoes this year I wonder if it is too late? I love tomatoes!
Not bad at all Dooley - 20 tomato plants!!!! I hope they grow really well for you and that you get loads of tomatoes from them all. You must let us see piccies of the tomatoes they produce when they fruit for you.
There are only 19 now. Something ate one of them. I transplanted them into bigger pots and have them from little to big. Several are blooming and I see some have small tomatoes. If we don't get some rain they will probably stay small. Watering just isn't the same as rain. They do need to be fed again, maybe tomorrow. dooley
