This was taken back in 2010 I think. 'Before' pic.

Here is what I got done last year. From back to front: Aronia melanocarpa (Black Chokeberry), Foxglove, Cotoneaster apiculatus (Cranberry Cotoneaster)

Same plants with Impatiens added in front

Left side of area. Here I have Impatiens in front, coral Bells behind those, another Cranberry Cotoneaster, Columbine and a Karl Forster grass. By the tree is a Woodland Phlox (Phlox divaricata). I want to finish planting before filling in the rest of the mulch.

I will be filling in the path to the seating area with a different color mulch. I laid down a layer of newspaper, then a 1" layer of compost. I went through maybe 6 2cf (cubic foot) bags of soil and about 6 1cf bags o.o Stuff gets expensive...
The worst part was watching out for not only the tree roots, but underground lines as well! Our electrical and cable lines are in that corner -_- *sigh* The second worst was the wind trying to blow my papers around before I could get the soil dumped on em.

Oh so do I!! No longer a boring area but one of real interest. I hope you'll keep us updated with more pictures as the planting matures.
