We had a watermelon come back from a seed near our compost heap one year. We let it go on 'cause it wasn't in the way. One of the watermelons grew itself into a cement block, therefore it was square. It was the coolest looking watermelon when cut that I ever saw. We did it on purpose a couple times, but it never worked out as well again. (go figure!)
