It had been 8 weeks and 3 days since we had rain. Only 1/2 inch, but today is overcast and much cooler. That cold front should be here sometime tonight but I don't think we are looking at any more rain with it, might get a little about the middle of next week.

I even feel like being a gardener again, for a while in August I was really thinking about plowing it all under since many of the plants were dying anyway.

Sadly, summer isn't over with us, it could even give us another 100+ day or two but today and this weekend I will be enjoying what we have.

That's a lifetme for a garden to wait. How do you schedule your watering during these times Toni?

We get to water from 6 am to 10 am and 7 pm to 10 pm from May to Sept to conserve water. One day I water in the morning and the next day I water in the evening. My water bill for the month of mid-July thru mid-August was almost $100. Next months bill will include the rest of August so will probably another $100.

What didn't survive this summer will not be replanted that's for sure.

YIPPEE!! I'm so glad you finally got some rain Toni and a bit of relief from the heat. So how long were the temperatures over 100°F Toni?

It's been raining off and on all day here. Very much needed! Now it can stop so my electrician can finish the repairs he started last night.

I can't complain about getting no rain here in Scotland. There's hardly a week goes by that hasn't got at least two days of the wet stuff. What a pity we can't share it with you all.

We've gotten so much lately (here in Denmark) that we're almost drowning in it. Oh no, just joking :) But seriously, we've really got a lot of rain, and unfortunately the slugs and the snails just love it.

My family and I just had to check the garden in the evenings, when the slugs and snails were active, in order to catch them.

Isn't it funny how different the fall of rain can be in different parts of the world?

    Best,
    Anette

    Netty, we had
    4 100+ days in June,
    2 in early July,
18 days from July 31st thru August 17th.
Had a one day break of 96 on the 18th
then back for a 5 day streak.

We could conceivably get one or two more 100+ days before fall actually sets in but I certainly hope not.

We didn't get rain yesterday but it started early this morning.
So far we have gotten 1.5 inches from Hermine, which is wonderful...the large cracks in my yard should be about half full of water by now. Looks like we are in a gap with, hopefully, more of rain coming in another couple of hours...depends on whether Hermine continues straight north or veers to the west a little. I am hoping for straight north!!

Glad she's sending you all "up north" some of the rain! We needed some here... but after a couple of days of rain... I know I'll be ready for some sunshine.

The sun tried to come out a few minutes ago, but I stood at the door and told it to go away....it did, so I am happy now.
We had so much clear sunshine during the summer I don't miss that big ball of gas at all.

Toni, I'm so happy for you! We got 1 1/4" of rain since 3 a.m. (yes, when you are in Texas the sound of rain on the roof will waken you from a deep sleep, with a smile on your face) and are having on-and-off showers all day. I planted green beans yesterday, and am so glad of the rain. Our peppers and tomatoes will perk up, and the flowers are loving it!
The hens are spending the day in their inside coop. You know the old saying about a wet hen . . . .
