Our girls are three weeks old and need names. This is the official opening day of a one-week long contest to Name a Chick. You may submit a name (preferably female, easy to spell because chickens are not terribly bright, and something I won't be embarrassed to yell at the top of my lungs)for a chick. We need eight names, so your submission has a pretty good chance of being chosen.
Prizes, you ask? Nope, just the incredible honor of naming a beautiful Black Australorp chick that will grow up to have glossy black feathers with a green sheen, weigh about 12 pounds, and lay large brown eggs. Opportunities like this don't come along every day.
Think hard, think smart, and submit by June 27, 2011. Winners will be announced with proper fanfare the next day.
    My chicks thank you.

When I think of a classy chick...the first name that comes to mind is, Veronica.

You know, MG-- why not name ALL the chicks for eight of the female GS members?

It could be a form of bonding and friendship...not to mention the pride and prestige of it for the girls here.

    hahaha.

    Well, it's an idea.

Well I figure one of them will probably be more inquisitive than the others so I submit Nosey.

MG can we submit more than one name?

Oh, these are great! Yes, you can submit more than one name. Submit as many as you like (in case of indecision on my part, I'll let the chicks "peck" their favorites on a piece of paper).

How about one named Dilly and the other named Dally. They would have to be the slowpokes of the bunch. ;)

Cool... I have 5 hens. The Rhode Island Red is Little Red, a white one named Sugar, two blonde ones--one is very tame and her name is Baby. The other one is Blondie [she is the one that got injured and is recovering well so far], and a speckled black and white Brahma named Bossy. She is very bossy to the other hens.

Some other ideas: Rhonda, Lulu, Princess, and Betsy.

Ok, kind of off the wall, but they won't mind. If they will be food for you someday, you might think food names. I can't eat my pets, so I didn't worry about that. [ Mrs Sanders, Drumstick, etc]

I once had a pair of black & green Banties named Samson and Delilah. They were very sweet. My generic names for them are Miss Chickie and Roo. :stew1:

Anightowl, our girls will never show up on the dining room table! My husband says I'm planning to run a rest home for geriatric hens.
I love the names so far--y'all are so inventive and clever!

I've not got much of an imagination when it comes to names but how about these? It might deter theives too as they'll think you're in the Police force. :p

    A - Alpha
    B - Beta
    C - Charlie
    D - Delta
    E - Echo
    F - Foxtrot
    G - Golf
    H - Hotel

There's eighteen left so if you get more chicks there's plenty of names to choose from. ;)
