Nashville has essentially shut down for the the night, given the many dire warnings flashing across the TV, internet and radio. We are absolute wusses when it comes to weather. That said, the weather IS pretty bad, and I'm glad the studio cancelled the dance party for tonight, because there are always a few intrepid souls who won't miss their dance time for anything.....and I should know, I used to be one of them! ;)

There is ice on my deck already. Wrecks on the freeway. Predictions of ice storms, power outages, trees down.

I'm staying in, cuddled by the fire with my dogs, my iPad, and a yummy bowl of beef barley soup that's been simmering all day. I predict some TV watching and hot chocolate in my immediate future too, just to round things out.

Staying indoors sounds great to me Ronni. I hope the weather isn't too severe in your area. Keep warm and enjoy your Barley soup and hot chocolate.

    Ronni, stay safe and warm!

We fall into the hardy weather group up here. Always plan on it to be bad and we have lots of snow removal equipment in our area. We live 40 mile south of Lake Erie and we tend to get lake effect snow when we have winds from the North, but this storm is from the South and no reliable predictions for us from it evidently. We have had the prediction of bad weather since yesterday....well, I can't say we haven't had much in all reality. Tonight I went out to do the rabbit chores and there is 1/2 of snow on the ground. whopee! nothing to get too excited about after we had a 2-4" prediction of accumulation for the day.

Sorry to hear that your weather there is going bad on you. Sounds like our weather over here.
Hopefully our weather will be past us tomorrow. We shall see.

Meanwhile, you have the right idea--staying inside with a cuppa hot chocolate....ermmm is that with whipped cream, marshmallows and a dash of vanilla extract?

Got up 12:15 AM to be at work by 1:45. Picked up trash in the freezing rain til around 11:30 when the snow started. Left work around 12:30 PM. My 41 mile commute took 1 Hour and 22 minutes, usually 40 to 45 minutes.

2 to 3 inches of the fluff stuff on top of a thin sheet of ice. Glad I don't have to go to work until Monday, if I don't have jury duty.

Mmmmm......beef barley soup......gonna have to make some.

FBG, please stay home, stay warm, and stay safe! Jury duty will likely be cancelled (lawyers don't like to risk their own necks) due to bad weather/driving conditions.

Yes'm. :) Though I prefer mine without marshmallows, but with just a sprinkle of cinnamon on the whipped cream. Heaven! :)

Along with that soup, I decided to add some crusty french bread, hot from the oven. :)

Hey, That looks like it wasn't made with a base of tomato juice...is that right? if so, PLEASE, please, please, post the recipe. I love beef barley soup, but haven't been able to find a recipe I like (most have a tomato base )....thank you.

I'll be making soup tomorrow from my thanksgiving remains. Which reminds me, I need to get it all out of the freezer before I go to bed.
    Yummm... homemade soup!

Carolyn, it does have diced tomatoes in it, but yes, it's a beef stock base. I'll post the recipe in the recipe section...though it might be a bit vague. I tend to just fly by the seat of my pants as far as recipes go, having cooked family meals for so long. :)

And yes, I did finally make that hot chocolate. While many people make hot chocolate with water, and add milk like you would with coffee, I prefer mine made with milk. It's richer and creamier, though less chocolatey tasting, which is why I do it. It was yummy!

..............there IS a recipe section, yes? Hmmmm...now I'll have to go look. If not, I'll be back to this thread and I'll post it here.

Nashville is supposed to be hit with a second round of wintry precipitation tonight into early tomorrow morning. Temps are supposed to be colder than yesterday's storm, so the potential exists for more wide-spread icy conditions.

I have a birthday party to attend this afternoon, and a short visit with two of my grandkids after that. Guess I'll leave the party early so that I can see the grandkids and get home before it gets too dark and too icy. Good thing I have lots of soup left over! :)
