WOW I was so thrilled to see this neat type of hawk I saw on my drive into town this morning. I had only driven about a 1/2 mile from the house when a brown colored hawk with a white band on it's tail up near it's rump flew across the road right in front of my car. The one thing that really stuck out was that it was all brown looking. Top and bottom with only that white band on it's tail near it's rump.
It's tail was also slender and longer. So when I got home later I couldn't wait to see what it was. I searched threw my bird book with no luck. So I went online and there it was. A Northern Harrier. What a neat bird. I had never seen one around here before. I hope they will become regular visitors.

So glad you were in the right place at the right time to see the Harrier. I love seeing unusual birds whilst out and about.
What a pity our eyes can't take photographs though 'cause then you could have shared it's picture with us all.

I can feel your regret at not getting a picture of it Tooty. We had the same kind of experience recently with a Red Kite. It almost hit the windscreen of the car as it flew over. I'd have loved to have snapped a shot of it but, sadly, it was way too far away by the time I'd reached over to to grab my camera. :( Why can't they ever be sitting somewhere that we could get a really clear pic of them?

Yes that is so true. I have never seen one and then it was there and gone in a flash like your Kite sighting.

I'm so sorry you didn't get a photo. I like hawks. And falcons, and eagles too. :D

Yes it is Droopy. I like them all to. Except we had one snatch a Blue Jay off of our feeder. I found a pile of feathers and other feathers scattered about the yard where they had sat up in a tree and plucked the feathers out of their meal.

That's the draw-back, but they have to eat too. :D

Don't you just hate it when you don't have your camera with you and something amazing happens? At least you have the memory Tooty :smt023
