( photo / image / picture from swmitra's Garden ) Hi, pls let me know what this plant is... I got a cutting from my ma-in-law, and just plonked it into shallow soil, and it have vigorous growth, and now this beautiful flower (which i think will last for only a day)... The growth is vigorous and tall that they are now flopping over downwards... If I could know what plant this is, then can research it and take care of it nicely! Swapna
Oh, I really like the look of you your plant with what looks like pinkish colored stems, so delicate looking,The yellow flower is really nice too!
Thanks all, yes it has to be the purslane.. I googled it after you guys suggested it... It's growing well. Interestingly I now also know that the other cuttings I got from my ma-in-law was the portulaca grandiflora at the same time, but somehow that one has hardly grown much. The cuttings are surviving fine, but not growing. Only in the last few days i see some new shoots... are they slower to grow?
Remember that before growing and flowering, they have to make roots, we are all impatient and sometimes for good reason, I am sure if the pieces are not dead they will reward you.I grow portulaca grandiflora double, if you ever see some beg for a piece, it flowers just about all year here and responds to pruning well.I have the golden one but there is also a pink one which I am forever looking out for. Could I ask you to upload you photo on the plant page for Portulaca oleracea (Purslane) it has all sorts of information but no photo yet.
Chocolate, your photo of the portulaca is so pretty and summery *sigh* I really love this plant for containers here in my hot zone 5 summer. It really stands up to heat and humidity.
