I found this discarded bulb like thing in the woods in a pile of other unwanted garden plants near my house, but don't know what kind of plant it would produce. Anyone know? ( photo / image / picture from Bluewing0's Garden )
Until you grow it, there won't be any idea exactly what it is, as in color, size or type, but I think it is a lily bulb. I would put it back in the ground and let it come up next season. Then you will know for sure.
Easter lily!! Lilium longiflorum perhaps. I took one out of a pot in the early summer and waited too long to replant it, it became animal food. Jerry
Carolyn, I just found the upper stem section from the bulb. The bottom of the stem matches up perfectly to it and the plant section does resemble some type of lily as you said..... Although the flowers have long gone, you can still see where three of them were at the very top. Here's the stem which is approx 2' tall. ( photo / image / picture from Blue0's Garden )
I would most likely think that as you have found the remaining stem, it does look like an easter lily and there are a boatload of those sold every year and end up exactly as this one has.
The things people throw away! I think Easter lilies are high on the list :-o Lets see, nothing grand, but so far over the yrs, hostas, blackeyed susans, sedom, daylilies, 3'-4' hydrangea bush, columbine. Just recently, a large clump of Stella D'Oro daylilies and some hens and chicks which all get shared with a couple of neighbors who like to garden, but don't walk around that much
