During winter use to watch lot of gardening shows. Yes I'm into remodeling house-one that needs repairs. But I want to watch program-that says let's get our hands dirty
Oh so so I!!! However, they seem to be rather thin on the ground (excuse the pun) at this time of year don't they? Maybe the TV garden presenters are only fair weather gardeners.
We no longer have cable TV, but we have great gardening shows to watch. If we want to see a "get your hands dirty" show, we just watch the farmers up and down the road. The big advantage is we get to see some super farm machinery too!
I've been saying the same thing for YEARS Koszta Kid! I can't think of the last time I saw any gardening shows on HGTV. They should show half the shows about gardening or get that 'G' out of the name!
This seems to be a common complaint about HGTV, not just repeated here but on other websites also. I'd hazard a guess that they receive many emails of complaint
Granted we have spent $$$ on remodeling the house. I can't get on HGTV see my name Kosztakid. But says NOT a member. But I also spent $$$ for landscaping and annuals in spring. Got list made out for for seeds and some new veggy garden fencing. Put my Christmas $$$ aside . I would even like to watch guy who would step on garden rake and catch it in his hand. Kept thinking one of these days going to knock himself out.
they used to have decent 'garden' shows...but it seems now the are all about the home improvement & real estate world.
I used to get BBC America and LOVED Ground Force, so inspiring! We've dropped all the premium channels, but I was able to find a DVD of old episodes. Maybe there aren't too many because most gardens don't include high-end stuff so they don't get money from sponsors? *shrug*
I can't remember the last time I saw a gardening show on ANY channel! With gardening becoming one of the most favorite activities you would think there would be some shows about it, especially this time of year. Don't they know we NEED them this time of year?
Wish I could find their snail mail address. And write them. Have e-mailed them before. Seen you can call them to buy their magazine.
This has been a pet peeve of mine for quite awhile.Oh,how I enjoyed Gardener's Diary & the other one with Kathy Renwald.Have lots of these on tape. Then there were the quilting shows.I had the dish removed & have never missed it. Doris
HGTV started moving their gardening programs to their DIY network around 2005. We don't have cable so I don't know if they are still being shown. Our local PBS station had lots of gardening programs years ago...before cable came along with more money to offer them. We don't even get P.Allen Smith any more, pretty useless information about creating garden 'rooms' but at least he had plants in his hands instead of a nail gun and paint brush.
Now even the bigger lumber stores have big Garden section. And the craft shows I have gone to Many people in them. The one garden green-house. Last time I was there had to have police come direct traffic. And Lot of $$$$ being spent.
In total agreement about HGTV. I don't ever watch that channel anymore. Back in the day, I loved The Gardener's Diary, Paul James, The Gardener Guy and another I can't recall the name of. I have sent the channel my opinion, but I'm not sure they care. We have a great question/answer gardening show Backyard Farmer,on our local PBS channel at the University of Nebraska. It is the Hort professors and staff, and they really do a great job.
