No, not the kind of "nesting" post you're used to seeing on an outdoorsy type forum such as this. My daughter is in the final stages of her second pregnancy. She's due September 19th. And OMG! Even though I love her to bits, she is just ridiculous!! I posted the following on my facebook page, I thought y'all might get a kick out of it here, too: Paige is very thoroughly in nesting mode. How do I know? I just printed out a 5 page list of things she needs~~NEEDS!!~~to get done before Lucy arrives, that she would like my help with. These are things of monumental importance, things that, undone, will completely spoil Lucy's arrival. I'm not quite sure how having the refrigerator cleaned out, washing the windows, bleaching the sink, or vacuuming behind the washer and dryer will contribute to Lucy's arrival, but I've learned to NEVER argue with a pregnant woman. I'm sure those of you who have children remember that insane nesting urge! I sure do, which is why I spent several hours at her house Friday, a 12 hour stretch yesterday, and I'll be over there again for about 3 hours today, helping her deep clean before Lucy's arrival. She posted a couple of photos on facebook too, which I thought might entertain y'all, so I'm sharing them here. Paige wielded the vacuum ferociously, getting into every conceivable nook and cranny, made even more challenging with River's "help." I tried to get her to let me do it, so she didn't have to get her 8 1/2 month pregnant body down on the floor, but she declined, saying my 60 year old body wouldn't fare much better. And then of course, she had a completely hairbrained idea to get up on the counter so that she could dust the tops of the kitchen cabinets. Uh.....NO. That is SO not going to happen, have you gone freaking mental? I wasn't thrilled with the idea of ME up there either, so we made William do it! He was dusting like crazy while I was scrubbing at baseboards, while Paige was dusting the living room furniture, while River was vacuuming! This whole nesting thing has truly become a family affair.
The nesting urge hit me with my first daughter, house cleaning wasn't enough though I went out in the back yard and dug up a patch of ground by the back fence about 6 feet x 12 feet and planted Okra and Black-eyed Peas the month before she was born. Had a good crop but I was too busy with a new baby to do much harvesting.
Never, ever stop a woman about to give birth doing what she feels she needs to do. Woe betide you if you do. Best to just give in gracefully and go along with her ideas. The cleaning will all be forgotten about once the new arrival appears on the scene. :-D Hope you're not all too sore and exhausted after the big clean up.
I know, but SHHHHHHHH!! Don't tell her that, she may just pop a blood vessel! She is determined that the house is going to GET clean and then STAY clean until Lucy arrives......and then it will be MY problem to keep it up as I"ll be staying with them for several days after......even though I only live 10 minutes away! Well then I'm just very grateful that she hasn't gotten thoroughly into her new garden yet. :-D They built this house less than a year ago, so they've not focused much on the gardens other than what the builder had landscaped. My thoughts exactly, Eileen! Paige wanted things cleaned, I didn't argue, just cleaned what was on the list! No way was I going to cross an 8 1/2 month pregnant woman, no sir, not me! As if she hadn't done enough, I went over there again today, and walked in to find this! Maniacally vacuuming under things yesterday, obsessively swiffering under things today. Nesting on steroids, I swear!
Oh my! I don't think the "nesting" urge ever hit me...nope not once. I am sure of it. Well, maybe... I did keep the 200ft ditch in front of the house weed eated and the compost turned. Those things were sooo important to have done in order for the baby to be born.
I honestly can't remember if the nesting urge hit me with the first 2 kids, but I do remember what happened with the last one. We were moving ...my due date was July 12th and we were moving house on August 1st. The baby was late ... not born until July 16th, and I was packing and cleaning the house like crazy, as well as digging up perennials to take to the new house. (It was very important not to leave my favorite plants behind!!) I cleaned every nook and cranny of that house because I didn't want the new owners to think we were 'pigs'!
