When one of the ladies comers to visit, she always went. "Prinnnnngg, prinnnggg" before entering the garden. She said that she didn't just want to enter un-announced. She did this because the garden is so densely grown that one cannot see us when we are sitting on the central patio.

So my partner and I decided to get an actual bell. We recently travelled up north into northern Friesland to pick-up some strawb plants.
While there we had a look in a little shop we know in Hindelopen. We found the bell. It has such a pure tone.

We must be the only allotment holders that has a 'front door bell ;) '

We places the bell by opne of the entrance gates at the front.

Well thought! I always make a ding-ding-sound before entering anybody's garden. I bet some of your fellows will snatch the idea soon.

Oh, wow, what a wonderful addition to you garden. It looks really great out there.

I have been thinking about having one too and letting a vine climb up the pole.

What a great idea. It looks like a nice bell and I'm sure the sound will be nice to hear knowing there is company coming when it rings.

I love the bell into the garden. That is a good idea so people don't get surprised! I have a bell that looks just like that one on my garage. I use it as a dinner bell. saves my voice from shouting to my son and honey when they are outdoors somewhere! :stew1:

Thats a great looking bell, and looks great right where you put it! I like it. Altho i got to thinking if everyone else puts in a bell,,lol. Imagine everyone getting up to see who is visiting, when its across the lottie. I think there might have to be coded ringing.

Chuckle you guys had some really nice comments. Thanks you very much.

EILEEN--Just let me know when you're coming. ;)
It sounded like you might be inviting yourself.I can always hope.

Oh TONI--How I would love to have something climbing up that pole (something besides bindweed :D), but you see, that pole is there so that stepping over the anti rabbit fence will be easier. When we are there, I put a stable step-up platform on the inside of the fence to help as well.

"T"-- That bell has a beautiful, clear and pure tone--just like the temple bells in Nepal and India. Folks are beginning to use it already. The visitors say they like the idea. I'm well chuffed.

It would be amazing if more folks got them, but it's conservative here, so I don't actually expect it.

Thanks again for all your positive comments.

It adds a classy touch to your garden entrance, Sjoerd. You'd better put a lock on it or some gnome might take a liking to it.

Oh GG...I take it off every night when I go home...just in case. it's not that I distrust folks, it's just that it'd be difficult to replace--so I take no chances.

It's a wonderful idea that adds a touch of class :)
I would worry that someone else might take a liking to it and wander off with it :(
