I got my christmas gift from Randy early, a new camera. Good deal and only two left so Randy got it for me this afternoon. And these are a few of the blooms still in my garden. Focus is out a bit in the first 2 pictures. But it is something I'm sure you'll get th hang of in no time. So other than that, the luminosity looks great.
I was concerned about that too but if you look at the leaves, they are in clear focus. Cameras do not see the colors the way the human eye does. There are 36 colors in the broken spectrum and many flower colors are in that broken spectrum. The human brain can fill in the gap so you can see the full color, but the camera doesn't have that brain power so the color gaps are there making the colors look fuzzy and out of focus. You can do a Google search for broken spectrum as it relates to the color of flowers and man made fabrics for more information.
Yes I know about that (had studied nothing but physics in my youth). Anyway to correct this focus issue, some cameras today use an IR laser to get it right (which when hits the background instead of the main object, is when this sort of thing happens). Which is why I find that feature to be a bit of an overkill (as manual setting works just fine) - So why pay extra for something that we would hardly ever use? I feel the same way about the new smile detecting feature also, totally unnecessary (which just adds to the overall cost). I guess I'm just too much of an "old school" boy for today's world (even though I am only 34). By the way, last picture of the rose is amazing, and also in perfect focus - And as I said so before, the ability of this camera to capture luminosity is very good indeed!
Toni, lovely photos and lovely flowers! Now that you have a new camera we'll expect even more fantastic pictures from you. Thank Randy for all of us! Hope your rose buds survive the cold. We've covered some vegetable plants and are hoping that the freeze doesn't do them in.

Thanks you all, I am really looking forward to getting better photos of next years blooms. Frank, the other camera was over 5 years old and in technology years I guess that's ancient The cover to the battery area has cracked, it was beginning to go thru batteries in no time, thankfully we used rechargables but it sometimes would suck a set dry before the other set could recharge and it would only accept a 1 gig card. It's a Kodak Easy Share C134, 12 mega pixels....don't you like the way I threw out that information like I actually knew what I was saying ....a new version of the one I had. Smaller in size and a nice shiny bright red, it chooses whether the photo should be macro or not, whether it needs the flash and probably several more things I haven't learned about yet. I have an 8 gb card in this one, so come spring time I can take something like 3300 photos before having to clear the card.
Toni turned loose with a camera that can take 3300 photos--we here on the GardenStew are in heaven!!!!
I just realized that since my camera will hold 3300 photos on one card....and I don't have that many plants in my garden....guess what??? I now have a guilt-free reason to order all the plants and seeds I have been holding back on
