A lady stopped by, wanting to buy eggs. She lives down the road from us, but we had never met. I told her we don't sell eggs, but I'd be very happy to give her a dozen (the girls have been active lately!). She thanked me, almost insisted on paying, and finally asked if I needed egg cartons. I told her they would be most welcome, and she replied she would just drop them off on the table by our front door, and not bother us. I've gotten so used to people saying they were going to do something, and then telling me "Oh, I forgot!" that I didn't expect the cartons to appear. This morning I went out to cut roses, and there were six cartons on the table, along with a thank you note for the eggs. I was gobsmacked! I think this lady is going to be a new friend!
1979... That was the last time my family ever had a decent and considerate neighbor we could depend on. Exactly like the one mentioned above. Since foul and highly graphic language isn't allowed at the Garden Stew - It unfortunately means that I now have to leave it to your individual imaginations. Regarding what type of neighbors I have been getting since...
I have lowered my expectations that people will do what they so, essentially to zero. Therefore I am always pleasantly surprised when someone actually comes through! That doesn't say much about the state of humanity does it?
Isn't it refreshing to have some like your new friend? The world needs more people like you and your egg box lady.
