Just wanted to say hi and that you have a great forum. I only found it yesterday when I was looking for information on indoor gardening with LED lights. I received a really nice LED for Christmas so I could take my gardening up a notch -- not only for help with my seed starters but I'm also hoping I can keep tomatoes and herbs going all winter. I grew up in NJ (I'm now in my 50s) and have been an avid gardener and lover of nature all my life. Gardening has been VERY challenging in Colorado due to heavy clay soil, short growing seasons and lots of hail storms in the summer. But I've been able to solve a lot of issues and am looking forward to summer. I just got my first seed catalog of the year the other day, so summer must be on its way!
Hi Deb, welcome to GardenStew from north Texas. Many years ago I lived in Wheatridge, Evergreen and Kerr Gulch and loved it. I didn't garden at the time but I can imagine the problems you are having. We have the heavy black clay here too so I use lots of compost when planting. We would love to ooooh and ahhhh over any photos of your garden or local scenery you might want to share and we are a nosey bunch.

Another welcome from Texas. I've been through Denver but never lived in Colorado. I have sand where I live so add stuff everytime I plant anything.I'm getting ready to plant more cool season plants to what I already have growing. Just jump in and get your feet wet. Hello, and a warm welcome from Central Texas! We are on a small farm (love your avatar since we keep chickens, actually feathered pets who lay eggs) trying to figure out how to garden around a drought. Our soil is great--just dry! Actually, this is the easiest forum I've found to put photos on--Frank makes everything as simple for us as possible.
Hi Deb, Welcome to Garden Stew. It is a fun and informative place for gardeners all over the world. I understand about the challenges of Colorado gardening. I lived in the mountains and had a tough time growing a garden because critters from Elk, Deer, Rabbits, Ground Squirrels and Goats would eat everything. Then there was the short growing season based on climate... But... It was fun trying!

Wow Eileen, Scotland! I've been to England twice but not up to Scotland, did make a short drive through Wales. I felt so at home, so many gardens and so lush, beauty everywhere, history going WAAAYYY back. I tell people my Mothership is England. You must have a short growing season up in Scotland too. At least in Colorado we get a lot of sun so plants grow in leaps and bounds when they get the chance.

Welcome from SE Texas. I spent about 20 years in New Mexico (outside of Albq) so we had about the same climate... and growing problems. I'm headed over to your garden to see those photos.
