Friday we went to an Amish market and we bought 2 Apple turnovers. I have type 2 diabetes and take Metformin twice a day to help control it. My sugar has been controlled for 1 1/2 years now. My wife told me that my sugar would probably be up this morning after eating my turnover for a bedtime snack last night. I checked my sugar this morning after I got up. It was 101 and the Dr. wants it between 60 and 110. So that makes Apple Turnovers a healthy snack! They were nice and flakey and light and sweet. You could tell that they were made with sugar and lard!
My FIL has found that food made with real sugar doesn't affect his blood sugar level anywhere near as much as high fructose corn syrup. He eats my homemade jam and jelly with very little affect but a spoonful or two of store bought raises his blood sugar level very high. It's bound to be the same with lard as opposed to the supposedly healthy vegetable oils.
Captain good for you. Customer who has trouble with is store bought bread.Find with bread his wife makes in her bread machine.
A little treat like this obviously does no harm so go ahead and enjoy your Apple Turnovers every now and then CK. Sounds like a great idea to me.
