Paige's new sphynx kitten. They have faces only their mothers could love lol! This hairless breed of cat has been a favorite of mine for 15 years now, since Paige (an ex vet tech) rescued one. She was always bringing rescued animals into the house, and this is one of the ones who stayed! They are covered with a soft down that makes them look hairless and feel warm and cozy. They have very high metabolisms, can't be in the sun, are the most friendly and energetic of the feline family, and have almost prehensile toes that allow them superior balance and agility. They're more doglike than catlike, often coming to the door to greet you when you get home, following you around, wanting to be petted, and are able to be trained more than most other cat breeds. I love them, can you tell??? And this is really funny to me, because I'm not a cat person at ALL!
I think these cats are really beautiful. Those eyes and ears make them look so adorable. I'm allergic to cats but sphinx's are just fine. If I ever decide to have a cat one of these would be my first choice.
Adorable picture @Ronni and the eyes are beautiful ...I read that these cats like white fur cats are prone to cancer exposed to the sun and heat...what's he or she's name?
The breeder Paige got the kitten from has an excellent reputation and is extremely responsible with the cats' health. The cats get health tests such as annual or bi-annual echocardiograms by a board certified veterinary cardiologist, as well as the appropriate DNA tests for PKD1, PRA, CMS, blood type etc. They also never breed any queens before they have reached adulthood and been scanned for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and other genetic health issues, which helps prevent the spread of them. All of these records plus regular checkups etc., are available to any potential adopter, plus phone numbers are provided of the vet, lab, all the veterinary resources and for the adopter to verify all information. Paige has been on the waiting list for over a year. The breeder only allows her queens to produce a couple of litters a year so they're not stressed. When it came Paige's turn (finally) to pick from the litter via dozens of photos and videos she was provided with, she saw this tiny little female with the cutest heart shaped markings! Paige's birthday is on valentine's day, and Paige's middle name is Valentine, and the breeder has named the baby Valentine. Obviously it was a match made in heaven! All the kittens are personally delivered to their new owners one way or another, driving or by plane, depending on how far away the new owners are. They're also welcome to visit the breeder and tour the facility and pick the animal up directly, whichever the new owner prefers. The breeder personally flew the kitty to Nashville, safe and secure in the cabin of the plane, and personally delivered her to Paige, who was waiting at the airport to take possession.
She has the most beautiful hypnotic eyes!! How I wish I could reach into my computer and cuddle her. Mind you, if I did, I doubt you'd be getting her back.
Ronni the breeder goes well out on covering the cats on all aspects ...nice to hear a breeder doing the proper job when breeding and I have to agree with Eileen the eyes are so stunning
I fell in love with Sphynx cats when I visited a cat show a friend of mine participated in. A friend of hers (you know how it goes with show-participants ) had a Sphynx on display, and after the show I had the opportunity to spend some time with the cat. Seriously the most loving stranger-friendly curious cat I've ever met.
Stunning shot Ronni how adorable...I know this might sound stupid but do they need jacket or jumper for warmth?
It's not stupid at all Gail. They're hairless so of course that would be a concern. Yeah, Valentine has a small selection of coats that Paige puts on her when it's particularly chilly. We're moving into the warmer season here so it hasn't really been much of a problem so far, but she'll need that extra layer when we move back into the colder months. The sphynx seeks warmth when they feel chilled. They'll go find a human to snuggle as their first choice (one of the things that makes them so endearing) or another animal, or they'll burrow under the throw on the couch, or find a spot of sunshine to bask in. As you can see, they're not shy about seeking warmth wherever they can find it!
The more I see of Valentine the more I wish I could have a sphinx like her to cuddle with. She's not only absolutely gorgeous but very photogenic too.
@Ronni as always beautiful shots and Eileens comment is smack on She's not only absolutely gorgeous but very photogenic too I can see by the pictures they love warmth and the reason I asked is I watched a programme years back with USA people and how they loved their pets and I saw a sphynx dressed up in a jumper and wondered if they really have to wear them ..they look beautiful animals and I bet Valentines in arms more than alone...oh bless
