Hi Marlwood, welcome to GardenStew from north Texas. Our membership is scattered all over the world making face-to-face meetings between members very rare. There may be some members here from your area who, after getting to know you, might be interested in a get-together though. We do have a Plant ID Forum for those mystery plants... http://www.gardenstew.com/forum-30.html .... but IDing a plant without photos is almost next to impossible since there are so many plants whose written descriptions sound the same. If you have a camera available, our How To Post Photos instructions are very easy to follow.
hi marlwood, welcome to the stew. most of us can't fulfill your need for local, but we still like to visit here on the stew. What is PDX? I have no idea what the initials refer to. so you'll have to help me out. thanks, carolyn
Carolyn, PDX is the designation for the Portland, Oregon airport and some Portland residents use those initials when referring to their city. I have edited Marlwood's post to help members understand where he is located.

Yet another welcome from Texas. You'll like it here--lots of good information and kind people. The international flavor is especially nice, with getting to know other gardens and other plants. If you want local contacts, call your county agricultural extension agent and ask if there is a local Master Gardeners' group. Some are great, some not-so-great, but they are gardeners!
