About 3 weeks ago we had some rain come through and had a leak in the spare bedroom. I called my BIL and he came down and found the leak and patched in 6 shingles. He said that we had some wind damage. So he worked up an estimate of $4790 to redo it. I turned it in to my insurance and they sent an adjuster out to look at it. They paid $4800 on the claim. So yesterday we got a new roof. The old one was a 30 year roof that only lasted 15 years. He said the shingles were in good shape, but the wind storm in Feb. tore them up. I hadn't been up on the roof since mid Jan when I cleaned out the chimney to the wood burner. While they were redoing the roof, I had him install a tubular skylight into the kitchen. Man what a difference that makes. You can actually work at the kitchen counter without any lights on. Since it is all reflected light, there is no heat and no fadeing of the wood cabinets or anything.

This winter you can be sure of having a leak proof roof which must be a reflief. The skylight was a great idea. :-D

We badly need to get our cottage roof replaced but will have to wait until we manage to put enough money aside to do it.
