    Hello everyone :-D

I bumped into the site last night and couldn't resist joining
(with a name that combines plants and food, GardenStew appealed to me instantly :D ).

So I hope there's room for one more little 'tater in the pot.

I live (and grow, of course) on the coast of North Carolina, zone 8.
I'm not much of a landscaper, "out-of-control plant accumulator" is more like it.
I keep trying to turn my little plot of sand into a jungle.
My gardening style (if you could call it that) is "helter-skelter" :
    1 . . . jam it in where you'd like to see it . . .
    2 . . . if that doesn't work, yank it out and try again, elsewhere . . .
    3 . . . repeat process 'til it either thrives or croaks . . .
    4 . . . begin again. (where's my next victim?)

I'm originally from Florida, and I'm still hopelessly addicted to those tropical plants.
Tropical Hibiscus, Orchids, Hedychiums, Brugmansias, Plumerias, Adeniums . . .
I could go on, but I expect you get the picture.

Our hot, humid summers suit them well enough, but at this time of the year the problem arises,
 now I must now find space for many of my tender babies.

Soon my little glasshouse will be filled to brimming.
But, sadly, they won't all fit, :( they never do.
I will have to face the inevitable decisions about who doesn't make the cut
and must meet their cruel demise.

It's enough to give me a wicked case of ginger-guilt and banana-blues!

Anyway, this seems to be such a warm and friendly place,
just the sort of a cozy spot where one might nestle in with a cup of cocoa (or a bowl of stew),
and enjoy the good company while learning and looking forward to the next growing season.

Hi Zuzu's petals.....It's a Wonderful Life is one of my favorite movies.

    Welcome to the stew.

I lived in Florida, West Palm Beach to be exact, for about 5 years many years ago. I don't miss the tropical plants or the huge palmetto bugs or the coral snakes in the palm trees or the no-see-ums at the beach, but I do miss the way you could poke a stick in the ground and in a couple of weeks it would be leafing out :-D

Have fun reading all the topics and blogs, that should keep you very busy thru the winter.

Welcome, what a great screenname!! While I'm in a far less tropical place (Washington) I have nothing but rocks to grow in, so I'm with ya on the sand, and with your gardening style. In fact, I've got a cherry tree that needs to be moved soon!

Aww, thanks for such a warm welcome :-D I really appreciate it.
Thanks for the compliments on my chosen name, I DO love that film (It's A Wonderful Life),
watching it repeatedly on TV is one of the (admittedly few) things I enjoy about winter.

I'm really looking forward to getting to know each of you,
sharing thoughts and ideas, and just good old fashioned gab.

pondlady ~ I adore your part of the country, the things I love to grow do so well there,
and the food is to die for!! :D
Hubby and I have relatives in Houma and Metarie, all back at home again.
I do hope that things are recovering well in your area.
We also live in a very hurricane-prone part of the world,
we are situated right at the mouth of the Cape Fear River, a location
that the folks at the Weather Channel spend far too much time pointing at, most summers.

toni ~ I certainly understand your feelings,
not for everyone, the pleasure of sharing their home with bugs
that grow big enough so that you can actually hear their footfalls. :-?
I lived in WPB for some time myself, graduated high school there, in fact,
Oooo  now that WAS many years ago!

CritterPainter ~ Coincidentally, my long and nomadic life also took me briefly to Washington.
We lived in Richland for a year, I really loved it there.

Gardenstew ~ Outstanding place you have here, thanks for pointing me in the right direction,
I can't wait to explore all the local nooks and crannies.

wannabe and glendann ~ I'm so pleased to meet you both,
I'm sure I'll love it here, you folks are wonderful!

    reggaefan ~ I'm intrigued . . . 8) me off to take a peek . . .
