What kind of a branch is it, and is it still attached to the tree?

You can root a branch from the Cornus sibirica and the rhododendrons by laying one on the ground and weighing it down with a rock. Leave it there for as long as it takes for a good root clump to develop, then cut it free from the mother tree and transplant.

Hazel trees are known to develop roots from branches that are cut of and put into the soil. I'm testing that out now.

I don't know much about trees, but I hope somebody will be along to help shortly.

You could try dipping the cut end in rooting hormone powder and then plant it in light soil.
