Some of you have asked about our lavender. The above photos are of our newest field. There are about 700 plants on this field. They should be in full bloom next month. Last year we were able to harvest twice. We hope for the same this year. Until next time. Lavender Up!
Please remember to post when they're blooming, won't you? This is a very exotic sight for me. The closest lavender fields I know of are in France.
Petunia, there are quite a few Lavender farms in Texas, some are open to the public to come cut their own bunch of Lavender similar to a 'You Pick It' vegie/fruit farm, some grow it commercially and dry it for body and bath products or food products, I hear lavender ice cream is really good.
Wow there's enough lavender there to keep me going in shower gel and essential oil for the rest of my life!!! It must have been back-breaking work to plant it all up though.
Lovely! So much work to get them all in, I am sure - I hadn't realized that Texas was a good place to grow it, I always assumed it was too dry. The lavender farms we have up here do well partly because they are misted/rained on so frequently... maybe they are simply different varieties. What types do you have? Do you market anything you make from them or just sell the lavender straight? One of my favorite things is a dark-chocolate bar with lavender in it. Yum.
Oh I agree Eileen, that would be awsome, all the lavendar bath oils and shower gels, and the smell of the field you have there, OMG...talk about beautiful!!
