Added to my stash of plants because these have not been planted in their new homes yet since I was gone over the weekend. Mascagnia macroptera - Butterfly Vine. It loves the heat here so it will be growing up one of the trellis' out front on the west side of the house. It got it's name not only from the fact that butterflies love it but the seedpods resemble butterflies too. This Duranta erecta - Brazilian Sky Flower, had no info on it other than the name Duranta...it is an annual this far north but keeping it pruned to a smaller size and in a pot I hope to be able to winter it in the bloom house successfully. It should be covered with the yellow berries later that the birds will love. Pavonia lasiopetala - Texas Rock Rose....I am hoping this will become part of a hedgerow I am planning that will include several different large flowering shrubs around the front yard. I also bought a Tecoma stans - Esperanza (among other names) and a Hamelia patens - Firebush to become part of that hedge. But they are not blooming yet so I didn't take pictures, but I will when they have color. The Duranta will part of that hedge in it's pot. Also found two Penstemon digitalis 'Husker Red' on the sale table.
Oh I love them all but the Brazilian Sky Flower is my all time favourite colour!!! I like the fact that the Butterfly Vine has such lovely seed pods and the Sky flower those has those yellow berries. Our rock roses are very similar to your Texas one Toni but they are very low growing.
I love the Brazilian sky flower, but the seedpods of the Butterfly Vine are so special! Congratulations on your new plants, toni.
Very pretty....I especially like the butterfly vine. I haven't noticed many butterflies this year yet. Just a few passing.
Wow Toni...I like your style! You have chosen some very nice specimens to decorate your garden with. The Duranta I like especially, but fer that it wouldn't make it here. It is a beautiful thing. I congratulate you on your additions. Don't stop taking fotos now!
I've never even heard of any of those plants except for the Penstemon, which grows here. The color of that Duranta is stunning!
Ohhh wow, i can only dream,,lol. Great selections there! And extremely beautiful. Those will be a car stopper for sure, planted out front.
They are all great but I do like the butterfly vine best. I'll be looking into that one for sure but I suspect it won't grow this far north. The texas rock rose looks similar to our beach roses here in ME. Wonderful colors! Thanks for sharing.
